There's so much going on in our country right now that it seems someone opened the floodgates for everyone to start throwing their ideas as laws into the public forum.
More below the fold.
Just today, I'm reading
Michigan passes law allowing doctors to refuse treating gays by
lawnorder.
Michigan preparing to let doctors choose NOT to treat gays
Lansing, Michigan) Doctors or other health care providers could not be disciplined or sued if they refuse to treat gay patients under legislation passed Wednesday by the Michigan House.
The bill allows health care workers to refuse service to anyone on moral, ethical or religious grounds.
Who in their right mind thought up this wonderful idea? Someone posted a comment about this being a form of legalized discrimination and that's exactly what it is. One would think in the 300+ years this nation has been around, and the changes through which she's been through - various wars, civil rights movemments, etc, let alone that we're living in the 21st centruy...you'd think we'd be beyond this.
And of course, going hand in hand with this was Outrage: Attack on Our Reproductive Rights by LiberalFromPA
From WaPo
Some pharmacists across the country are refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control and morning-after pills, saying that dispensing the medications violates their personal moral or religious beliefs...
An increasing number of clashes are occurring in drugstores across the country. Pharmacists often risk dismissal or other disciplinary action to stand up for their beliefs, while shaken teenage girls and women desperately call their doctors, frequently late at night, after being turned away by sometimes-lecturing men and women in white coats.
"There are pharmacists who will only give birth control pills to a woman if she's married. There are pharmacists who mistakenly believe contraception is a form of abortion and refuse to prescribe it to anyone," said Adam Sonfield of the Alan Guttmacher Institute in New York, which tracks reproductive issues. "There are even cases of pharmacists holding prescriptions hostage, where they won't even transfer it to another pharmacy when time is of the essence."
That is what happened to Kathleen Pulz and her husband, who panicked when the condom they were using broke. Their fear really spiked when the Walgreens pharmacy down the street from their home in Milwaukee refused to fill an emergency prescription for the morning-after pill.
"I couldn't believe it," said Pulz, 44, who with her husband had long ago decided they could not afford a fifth child. "How can they make that decision for us? I was outraged...
No one knows exactly how often that is happening, but cases have been reported across the country, including in California, Washington, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Texas, New Hampshire, Ohio and North Carolina. Advocates on both sides say the refusals appear to be spreading, often surfacing only in the rare instances when women file complaints.
Hmmmmm....seems someone is trying to exert their ideals and beliefs on the rest of the nation. Who could it be? Forget that birth control prevents pregnancy in the first place, therefore preventing (in 99.99% of the time) unwanted pregnancy, therefore preventing the need for abortions.
Like those great IMAX movies? Well...catch 'em while you can, or at least where you can. Seems they're under the attack too, as we can see in IMAX Theaters Caving Not to Offend the Religious by brendan1963
Knowing Cameron's work, I'd very much like to see this, but these coward theaters have decided not to show this movie in their theaters, many of which are connected to SCIENCE museums, like Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC.
Lisa Buzzelli, director of the IMAX theater in Charleston makes this ridiculous comment:
"We've got to pick a film that's going to sell in our area. If it's not going to sell, we're not going to take it. Many people here believe in creationism, not evolution."
What a bunch of crap! These people are simply scared of offending religious believers.
In Charlotte, Discovery Place President John Mackay Jr. released a statement to the Charlotte Observer said:
"We declined to show `Volcanoes of the Deep Sea' in favor of other films that viewers and staff believed were more engaging," Mackay said in Wednesday's statement. "While the issue of evolution was apparent in the film and was mentioned as a negative factor in some surveys, evolution was only one minor reason that we decided not to show the film at Discovery Place."
Each year, he said, about 20 IMAX movies are released. Discovery Place, with one screen, can present three to four each year. "Obviously," he wrote, "some good films and some bad films fall by the wayside."
On Tuesday, Mackay told the Observer the issue of evolution had come up when museum staff looked at the film.
"However," he told a reporter, "the primary concern was that, with other good film product out there, we didn't feel it was the film we should bring in at that time. We've shown many films and exhibits that touch on evolution. But we felt the way this was phrased was over the top. It was put out there with such in-your-faceness."
"Filmmakers can be strident in their language -- `This is the way it is' -- and what's held as theoretical is presented as fact."
As Jon Stewart said, "Instead of the 'separation of church and state', it's becoming 'church.'"
Forget that the religious also put out plenty of videos themselves on all sorts of topics. Now they have to try to squash the competition. Oh, those mean evolutionists. Can't have them showing those incredibly awesome, yet totally false movies like MAGNIFICENT DESOLATION: WALKING ON THE MOON 3D , AMAZING JOURNEYS which includes an excerpt description:
Amazing Journeys follows five of the most unusual, lengthy, strenuous and amusing animal migrations anywhere. The film captures the life-and-death dramas of the incredible journeys of the monarch butterflies, migratory birds, gray whales, red crabs and zebras. Undertaking heroic treks of survival across thousands of miles of the most spectacular places on Earth, these creatures exemplify extraordinary feats of stamina and perseverance in their efforts to ensure
survival of their next generation.
Emphasis mine - to be read, survival of the fittest, aka, Natural Selection, aka Darwin
or even Volcanoes of the Deep Sea which includes the excerpt:
Volcanoes of the Deep Sea delivers the first high-fidelity experience of the great ocean depths. Aboard the submersible Alvin, a pair of scientists plunge twelve thousand feet into the deep Atlantic. They explore astounding volcanic habitats on the crest of the Mid-Ocean Ridge and investigate a mysterious living fossil that is decorating the deep with its strange, symmetrical imprint.
On the Mid-Ocean Ridge, miles beneath the surface of the sea, in environments of crushing pressure, extreme temperatures, and toxic water, thrive dense communities of life denser, perhaps, than anywhere else on Earth. At a site called TAG, located in the Atlantic under 12,000 feet of water, another geologist, Peter Rona has discovered an unusual pattern in the sediment. The imprint, a strangely symmetrical hexagonal array of holes, appears to be the product of an unknown organism. Although the creature has never been seen, evidence suggests it may be a living fossil and among the first complex organisms to emerge on Earth.
Through an extraordinary visual and scientific journey, Volcanoes of the Deep Sea reveals the unique characteristics of the greatest mountain chain on Earth, its connection to our tumultuous, changing planet and its profound and powerful influence on the life of this world.
All this crap about doctor's refusing medical care, birth control - even what movies to watch...it's all wrong, not allowed, wrong in the eyes of god. But as georgia10 pointed out in the excellent diary, Fucking Relgious Freaks, it's ok to try and storm a hospice, or prevent someone from seeing their relative moments from death, or even trail Jesus around on your trailer-hitch like a boat or one of those smoker barbeques.
WHO THE FUCK HAS A FULL-SIZE JESUS IN THEIR GARAGE? Know what that reminds me of? That episode of The Simpsons where the mall developer buries a fake angel to stir up interest in the coming grand opening.
What else is going on? Hmm...lemme see....after the whole Janet Jackson fiasco, the FCC is considering extending their reach into the home of cable and satellite tv subscribers yet the FEC Weighs Limited Internet Activity Rules. Well...if they're gonna do that and infringe on people's basic rights to speak, they surely will go after this asshole, Hal Turner, right?
LIBERALS AND OTHER MORONS SCREAMING FOR ME TO BE ARRESTED OVER REMARKS ON TERRI SCHIAVO CASE
They claim content on this web site is "threatening terrorist action, threatening to murder police, threatening to bomb a building" and other such nonsense.
Apparently, these people were educated in public schools post 1980 and as such, have no clue about what words really mean. They need to brush up on their reading comprehension.
To help ease their emotional temper tantrums over my remarks, I will herein explain the difference between an opinion, a threat and incitement:
Saying something "should" happen or "ought to" happen is an opinion. You may not like what I think "should" or "ought to" happen, but saying such things amounts only to an OPINION.
Saying something "WILL" happen or "IS GOING TO" happen can be a threat, but only if what "Will" happen is illegal.
"Incitement" is when an utterance is made IN A CONTEXT WHICH MAKES DIRECT LAWLESSNESS LIKELY.
If I utter something on my web site, it is uttered in a context which does not lend itself to immediate lawless action. If I made some of my remarks in front of the Terri Schiavo Hospice in Florida, in the presence of angry mob, then it would be LIKELY that direct lawlessness would happen and THAT could be unlawful "incitement."
So all you folks who have been screaming for me to be jailed, haven't got a leg to stand on. I know where the "line" is with respect to illegal language and I do not cross it.
And for those government types who think they will file a charge anyway, I've been down that road before and when I was done suing the folks who falsely arrested me over my words, it cost them big $$$$$ (5 figures!). So don't go down that road because I know exactly what I can and cannot say and how to crush, in federal court, any legal action sent my way over my words.
NOW, THEY'RE FIGHTING OVER THE CORPSE!
Terri Schiavo's so-called "husband" wants her cremated after he starves her to death while her parents want her to get a traditional Catholic funeral. Just one more reason for anyone with a beef against Michael Schiavo to act as soon as they can! I earnestly hope they do.
Ya know...for a guy who is advocating for an all-out use of force on this issue and who is advocating for the hospice to be truck-bombed.....
CONGRATULATIONS, AMERICA.
THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE SUNK TO
PINELLAS PARK PRICKS ARREST KID FOR "TRESPASSING;" WAS TRYING TO GIVE A GLASS OF WATER TO TERRI SCHIAVO
These guys deserve to have the shit kicked out of them, and that Hospice ought to be blown up by a truck bomb
~~emphasis mine~~
yet who feels that George Bush and Congress have the authority to overstep state's rights, while simultaneously pushing for state's rights, to rush in with the troops and rescue this woman.......
DEAR UNITED STATES CONGRESS:
If the situation with the killing of federal Judge Joan Lefkow's family didn't clue you into the fact that there is a MAJOR problem with the federal judiciary, the recent actions by Judges in the Terri Schiavo case should have!
For instance, Congressional Committees issued Subpoenas for Terri Schiavo to appear before them. A state judge - George Greer - quashed those Subpoenas even though only a federal Court had jurisdiction to do so. When you The Congress, appealed the illegal quashing of Subpoenas by a state judge, the Supreme Court sided with the State Judge! This effectively made the United States Congress SUBORDINATE to state judges!
Instead of Appealing the state judges ruling, you should simply have had THe President of the United States send U.S. Marshals enforce the Subpoenas, arresting anyone and everyone who interfered., THAT is how sovereign power is executed.
Next, federal District Judge James Whittemore ignored the "De Novo" aspect of special legislation passed by Congress in the Terri Schiavo situation. So did the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and so did the US Supreme court. These courts simply IGNORED what you, the Congress, ordered.
Our federal Judiciary is operating outside the bounds of its powers and must be reigned in. NOW. Under our Constitution you, the Congress, have the power to impeach Judges. I strongly recommend you do so.
In the absence of any lawful effort to remove these Judges via impeachment, I believe you will be opening up a slew of other Lefkow-type occurrences because We The People can simply kill these Judges. None of us want that and I am NOT threatening to do so but in the absence of Congressional action, what other choice exists?
You may be content to have courts laugh at you, ignore you, ignore the Constitutional separation of powers and basically shove your authority up your collective ass, but We The People are not. In case you aren't clear how much absolute authority you have over the federal courts - even the power to eliminate all of them lower the the Supreme court, give a read here
you'd think he'd be all supportive of Terri Schiavo. Hmmm...guess again...
MAYBE I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THIS TERRI SCHIAVO THING THE WRONG WAY. . . . .
I've been proceeding from the assumption that she was merely a totally innocent, completely helpless woman being savagely deprived of life through slow starvation and dehydration her by an adulterous husband with the blessing of renegade courts acting in direct defiance of U.S Congress Subpoenas, . But on second thought. . . . . .
She was born a jew, but converted to Catholicism. Being born a jew makes one a racial jew no matter what religion they convert to. And seeing as racial jews are the lowest form of scum in the history of this planet, (They've been thrown out of more countries than any other race in history) maybe starving Terri to death isn't too bad a thing at all.
In fact, since there are so many other jews in Florida, doubtless many who are seriously ill from all their inbreeding and race mixing, maybe this Schiavo thing is a terrific way to set case law as an excuse to get rid of a whole slew of other jews!
I still think it would have been far more humane to simply gas her to death. But I guess after all the hoopla about "gas chambers" in Germany back in WW2, the powers that be are a bit squeamish about using that method again.
Oh well.
-- Hal Turner
Gas chamber "hoopla?" Lol....yeah, that's hoopla alright. About as much hoopla about the gas chambers as there is about evolution, right Hal?
Honestly, I could probably spend a day and a half just going through Kos here, pull out a million fucking stories to prove that this country is becoming more and more fucked up by the day, yet still only cover 0.05% of the big picture.
I wonder who's going to break first? The religious on their endless effort to overthrow this country's democratic political system, or you and me...as in....a break for the door...
**Let it be dully noted that I don't have anything against religious people....yet. I just have a problem with certain groups of people over-extending what they feel to be the right road for this country. You don't see me banging on anyone's door calling for the removal of all forms of religion , either in this country, or around the world. I just don't want to be bothered. Practice your religion personally, the way Jesus meant it to be. And leave me out of it!**
