ABC Spotlights Pat Robertsons Hypocrisy

Thu Feb 02, 2006 at 03:55:39 PM PDT

I thought you all might find this article interesting on ABC News site.  Apparently Pat Robertson has a new book.  During an interview he had this to say about it.
"Without forgiveness ... there is no faith and no miracles. Forgiving others is not an optional extra, but the heart of the matter."

Hard to believe ABC actually said this in the article

That spirit of forgiveness has been lacking in many of his recent public statements.

After Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke, Robertson implied that it was the result of his plan to give back some land to the Palestinians.

More ABC thrashing to follow.

When citizens of Dover, Pa., voted out the school board that had insisted on including intelligent design in classrooms, he told them: "If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city."

A few months before, in August 2005, he called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Nice of ABC to point out what a hypocrit Pat is.

  •  God, I wish ABC would put its money (4.00 / 5)

where its mouth is when it comes to the 700 Club and the family channel then. ABC has tolerated a lot of Robertson's crap on their airways, disclaimer or no. They might not win the fight to divorce themselves from Robertson, but I wish they would give it a shot.

    •  A suggestion for Disney/ABC (none / 0)

Here's a strategy ABC might want to try.

Some of you must remember why smoking ads were removed from television. They weren't actually banned, but every time a cigarette or tobacco ad aired, the companies were made to provide equal time for public service announcements that were very hard hitting about the dangers of smoking. The anti-smoking ads were so effective that fewer and fewer people took up smoking. The tobacco companies voluntarily stopped advertising because it was self-defeating.

Maybe Disney/ABC should try something similar to rid themselves of Pat and the 700 Club. Provide a minimum of 30 minutes for progressive people of faith--such as Jim Wallis, Jimmy Carter or Tony Campolo--to dispute Pat's content of the day.

Would Pat continue to insist that the 700 Club be aired if its shameful theology was taken apart on a daily basis? Or would he decide he'd rather not indirectly provide airtime to his progressive counterparts. Maybe he would insist on staying on the air, but you know he'd certainly be unhappy about it.

  •  If only you liberals understood poor Pat (none / 1)

It's not that he doesn't forgive Dover and Ariel.  He just is smart enough to realize that God doesn't.  He's just stating an obvious fact about how much God hates them and anyone else who disagrees with God's REAL son, Pat Robertson; it's not poor misunderstood Pat's fault that God doesn't forgive.  ;)

  •  Pat was interviewed on ABC this morning, (none / 0)

on Good Morning America.  Robin Roberts did the interview and it was a total lovefest.  I was disgusted.  Pat was allowed to plug his book and she did not ask him one tough question about his inflammatory statements.  She only made a comment at the end of the interview; "Wow, you've been nice" or words to that effect.  Gag me.  Wish Charlie Gibson had done the interview---at least he sometimes asks tough questions.
  •  Pat Robertson, to spearhead Abramoff's campaigns (none / 0)

    Some info....

In 2002 Dobson joined a coterie of Christian-right activists, including Tony Perkins, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, to spearhead Abramoff's campaigns against the establishment of several Louisiana casinos that infringed on the turf of Abramoff's tribal clients. Dobson and his allies recorded messages for phone banking, lobbied high-level Bush Administration officials and took to the airwaves. Whether they knew it or not, these Christian soldiers' crusade to protect families in the "Sportsmen's Paradise" from the side effects of chronic slot-pulling and dice-rolling was funded by the gambling industry and planned by the lobbyist known even to his friends as "Casino Jack

  •  you know, he almost has it right (none / 0)

from the ABC article, a prime example of hate, distortions and lies. Organized thuggery of religion obfuscted by the fake uplifing sentiments and the smile of a truly sick individual.

In "Miracles Can Be Yours Today," Robertson, 75, prescribes steps that must be followed before miracles will be granted:

    • Have Faith in God
    • Speak a Command: talk to the disease, talk to the financial trouble, talk to the storm
    • Be Specific
    • Do Not Doubt
    • Appropriate the Answer
-Immediately: God will send you an answer immediately to coincide with His perfect timing for your life
    - Forgive Those Who Have Wronged You

    The reality

    • Have faith in the process of law based upon the Constitution and of the scientific method
    • Rather than talk, find real thruth, and act to effect change
    • Be specific in your questioning of authority
    • Do not doubt scientific evidence
    • Appropriate the Facts, not religious Dogma
    • Immediately prosecute criminals in gov't with perfect timing for the November 2006 election cycle
    • Forgive people like Pat Robertson who make threats of violence against other human beings - well, maybe. If you are in a good mood, perhaps.

Not even close, Pat .. no cigar.
Not even a little stuffed bunny.

  •  The First Stage of Goodbye? (none / 0)

Somehow, ABC has been locked into showing his show on ABC Family since they bought it when the channel was called something else.  How great to channel surf some day soon and no longer have to skip by him.
