Criminal scandals are going ignored because of the ports scam

Sun Feb 26, 2006 at 01:15:10 PM PDT

The GOP has plenty of criminal scandals going on but you wouldn't know it this week. Instead everyone from kossacks to the traditional media has been totally focused on a minor scam which has a few unknown committee members approving a boneheaded port security deal. Never mind that everyone of any importance has arms-length distance from the decision. Never mind that the whole thing can disappear if Bush just changes his mind. Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.

Meanwhile, the house GOP gets to parade around breathing national defence fire and looking like heroes, while their criminal activities go uncovered. Gone is the close scrutiny of the last few months to Abramoff, the NSA, and Plame. Instead we have Tom DeLay making proud speeches about defending our ports.

This doesn't play particularly well for Democrats and it's not making a dent in Bush's approval because he's already in the doghouse. The only effect this "scandal" is really having is to distract people from the real problems in the Republican party.

  •  This is what pisses me off the most about it. (none / 0)

Wer'e spending our time with the Dubai Deal and Bush and his cronies are getting a pass on all their corruption and ineptitude. It seems like they create crises one after the other so they can hide behind them. We don't have time to dwell and think of their latest crap before they have created another crisis.

Republican motto: If you can't dazzle them with Brilliance Baffle them with Bullshit!

corruption to keep track of. I'm overloaded! And unfortunately, I think the public is getting numbed to it too. Reminds me of when the defense showed the jury the Rodney King beating over and over such that they became numb to it.

I don't know what consciousness is or how it works, but I like it.

  •  Dubai has a shelf life of a month... (none / 1)

    or perhaps a bit longer.

Meanwhile, the prosecutors keep doing their jobs and the dirt keeps piling up around Abramoff & Delay.

When the ports finally go off the radar, people might actually NOTICE how much higher the manure piles have gotten in a month's time.

You know the old story about frogs and boiling water. Dubai takes the frog to a different pot, and when he gets back to the first one, he NOTICES that things have heated up!

I wrote a diary on the scandal in Ohio. A GOP operative steals up to 13.5 million bucks from the state Workmenr's Compensation Fund, donates $200,000 to Bush by funneling it through at least 4 aides to Govenor Taft, and Bush refuses to return the money. And like your diary, it got 5 hits. Four of which pointed out a grammar error. So, I deeleted the diary and I ain't going too right no more of them diary things,
