Sun Mar 12, 2006 at 02:06:27 PM PDT

Hey New Yawkas, howudooin? lol Just here to let everyone in NYC and NYC suburbs know about a two fun and exciting fundraising events being held this coming Tuesday in Westchester County and Manhattan. This is your chance to meet and support to great Democratic party candidates running for their respective congressional districts. They are teaming up Tuesday, March 14 to help each other raise money and meet supporters.

Coleen Rowley is already known to many. The retired FBI Special Agent and Time magazine's co-Person of the Year is running for the House seat in MN-02 which is currently held by Republican Bush lapdog John Kline.

John Hall, a citizen activist, songwriter and musician with the band Orleans, is running for the seat in NY-19 which is currently held by another Bush/Delay stooge Sue Kelly. Hall has also served as a county legislator in Ulster County.

Great Mother Jones article about Coleen.

  •  Coleen Rowley's been Rahmed, as you ... (none / 1)

spittle-emitting, irrational, loss-loving Emanuel-haters might say. She's been an anemic fundraiser and a sub-par candidate in other ways as well, and State Senator Sharon Marko has decided to run, which is great, since as a State Senator, she already has name recognition, and is likely to be able to raise the money needed to make this district competitive.
    •  hey asshole (none / 0)

got any anger management problems you need to deal with?
    •  I don't even think Rahm-ing was necessary (none / 0)

Rowley is an embarrassment. After putting a charactature of her opponent John Kline on her website as Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes, it was pretty much over.  Kline is a huge asshole, but he is a veteran and a real Colonel.  Mocking someone's military service?  Um, not so good.

Marko seems like an ok candidate (but a huge improvement over Rowley), but this is a real longshot race anyway.  Save your money.

      •  It's not a real longshot race. (none / 0)

Charlie Cook rates it as Likely Republican, meaning it could be competitive if the right things happen (which with Marko deciding to run, it looks like they are happening). (He has 20 Democrats as in competitive or potentially competitive races, and 45 Republicans as in competitive or potentially competitve races, so this is a race to wait and watch and then maybe donate if it seems to be getting more competitive.
        •  On the ground in Minnesota (none / 0)

I don't see it as competitive.  Elwyn Tinklenberg has a better shot at the open seat in MN-06.  Tim Walz v. Gil Gutnecht in MN-01 is a better bet as well.  Marko is a big improvement, but one the "right things" that need to happen is to find Osama Bin Laden living in Kline's basement.
      •  That caricature (none / 0)

of Kline as Col. Klink was a dumb mistake. She's apologized for it. Were they mocking his military service? Or were they trying to portray Kline as a bumbling deaf dumb and blind enabler of Bush and his policies? Either way, it came off very poorly.
  •  NY Times article about John Hall (none / 0)

    Article
He says he got his start in politics in the way musicians usually do: he played in and organized
concerts for movements like No Nukes.
Then he found out about a plan to open a dump near his house, at that time in Saugerties. He ran
for the Ulster County Legislature and became one of its few Democrats. After serving a term, he
returned to producing, writing and playing guitar -- until he got angry about local school budgets'
not passing. Next stop, the Saugerties school board, which went on to elect him president.
He said he almost collapsed upon learning that the Bush campaign wanted to use ''Still the One''
as its 2004 campaign theme song. He foiled that plan, it goes without saying. And now he is
running for a third office -- because, he says, he sees no one standing up to the Bush
administration, especially not Mrs. Kelly, whom he describes as an enabler of its policies.
  •  Staying positive (none / 0)

Coleen Rowley opposed the war before it started. She even spoke out about it while still employed by the FBI. This letter was written by Rowley to FBI director Robert Mueller before we invaded. The Star-Tribune, which I used to link to when referring to this article, no longer has the story available on it's site.
