Well, I gave it two weeks, and just like y'all said, I woke up and found we have more in common than not, as you'll see from my new sig.
But, it is time to call anyone who votes for FMA what they are: fascists. FMA is, as is being said elsewhere, the first discriminatory amendment, but, that meme, while it needs to be repeated, does not go far enough.
The meme we need to start repeating is "Who's Next?". Because, after all, it's a slippery slope, and once you build hate into the Constitution, there's really no stopping it.
The "Who's Next?" meme, of course, will hit the Jewish community right in the gut, because they know who's next. The same folks who are always next. The Jews. Now, Jews are overwhelmingly Democratic, because they're scared to death of "Who's Next?" but if you say it, if you can get them to hear it, the Jewish Republicans will come back to the Democratic party, because it is better to watch your wallet than your back. "Who's next?" strikes fear in every Jewish heart. 1945 really wasn't so long ago.
The same should hold true for Arab-Americans. It always surprises me how much money Bush gets from the Arab-Americans when he's targeted them to be rounded up and stuck in prisons without even releasing their names or giving them access to attorneys. But, then, Arab-Americans tend to be Republicans because Jewish Americans tend to be Democrats. This tent's got to be big enough for the two of them, and a common enemy's enough to put them in the same tent. "Who's Next?" is that enemy.
Who's Next? Blacks, women, Masons, union members, gypsies, intellectuals, artists. All the usual suspects. Who's next? All of us, unless we can stop Bush.
