Once again, because the worst person in the world, can't admit error, he's giving the democrats the chance to step in and save the senior citizens of America, while, at the same time, making those seniors and their children angry at the republicans.
The time for signing up for the Medicare Part D is about to expire, with many many, many seniors not enrolled. By not extending the deadline,
the republicans are showing how politically tonedeaf they are, and how heartless they are, when they put insurance companies ahead of seniors.
One woman, saying she was having trouble helping her 75-year-old mother make a choice, asked whether the deadline should be extended.
"No, and the reason why is there's got to be a fixed time for people to sign up," the president said.
The Republican-controlled Senate, meanwhile, narrowly defeated a measure that would have extended the deadline until the end of the year. Eligible people face a penalty if they seek drug benefits after May 15
This is a big thing. The republicans are going to penalize people for signing up late! This is right up there with vetoing the ports deal.
When May 16 rolls around, and people show up at their local Eckard's and not only can't get their morning after pill, but find their mother can't get her blood pressure medicine, people are going to go ballistic. Then, when they have to pay a penalty on top of that, when they finally do get signed up, it's going to be great theater.
Democrats should be offering to extend this deadline everyday between now and May 15. Make it be the republicans who won't fix this problem. Seniors vote. My own mother's response is driving this home to me. I do believe, she is more concerned this time around, with her medications and their cost, than whether Joe and Henry are getting married. This is a direct, tangible hit on seniors, They are seeing their retirement plans disappear, and costs go up. They are angry and afraid. Just the state republicans like the country to be in. Only problem is, they are angry at republicans. Democrats, take adavantage of this, NOW!
