Howard Dean E-Mail: "Unprecedented 50-state Strategy: Can We Do It?"

Thu Mar 23, 2006 at 11:57:28 AM PDT

Just received Howard Dean's latest e-mail, and was inspired enough to want to pass it along.

And to answer Dean's question--you're damn right we can.

See Howard's e-mail on the flip.

Never before has our party been more organized in advance of an election. With new staff hitting the ground everywhere from Alaska to Arkansas, we are going to fight for every vote in every corner of every state in 2006.

Right now we're preparing for the next big step in our 50-state strategy. On April 29th, thousands of volunteers will recruit hundreds of thousands more Americans committed to changing the status quo this year.

We're going to do it by making personal contact with our neighbors. April 29th will be the Democratic Party's first-ever National Neighbor-to-Neighbor Organizing Day. We're going to test our organization and build new relationships among volunteers with door-knocking events in communities across America.

We estimate that we need to print 500,000 pieces of literature to cover these events. With the cost of printing, plus the cost of shipping, staff time and logistics to make these events happen, we need an investment of $107,000 by Monday in order to kick-start this program.

Can you contribute something right now to help make this unprecedented program a reality? Click here to see the literature up close and make your donation:

All the signs point to this being a big election year for Democrats. But if we want to win in November, we've got to fight now to reach every community and build a solid operation before Election Day.

Volunteers knocking on doors on April 29th will carry a simple piece of literature. It summarizes the Democratic vision and offers an opportunity to make a connection and be a part of the movement for change.

Whether people receive the literature in person or on their doorknob, they will be able to plug into their local volunteer network, which will be crucial to building our organization now and turning out the vote in November.

On one day in April we can deliver a clear Democratic vision and offer people an opportunity to help make it a reality. Will you donate to help pull it off?

Next week you'll learn more about how to make the national Neighbor-to-Neighbor Organizing Day a reality on the ground in your community.

Headquarters staff and state parties are working around the clock to provide staging areas in key neighborhoods and the basic training materials to make the canvass as effective as possible.

It's up to you to execute this ambitious and historic operation.

It will only take 2,200 people donating $50 to fund this program. Please contribute whatever you can to help get this literature printed and distributed to the states:

Two-thirds of Americans reject this president and the Republican leadership -- and they are waiting to hear from us.

We have a big task in November. We will only win if every one of us takes responsibility for the outcome of the election now -- while there is still time to build our operation. We are all members of one American community and it's up to us to make sure that our country has a government as good as its people.

Thank you for being a part of this unprecedented organizing drive.

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

Howard was on CNN's "American Morning" today and Soledad O'Brien kept trying to push on him that 78% of Americans don't think the Democrats have a plan to get out of Iraq.

    From the DNC Blog:

On President Bush's Failed Iraq Policies:
"We don't believe as the President said that we ought to leave this to the next president. The President got us into this. He needs to plan to get us out of it. We do believe that we can't withdraw immediately. That's not going to stabilize this dreadful situation, which the President has caused by his brash actions and because he did not listen to the military when we went in.

"Our plan is clear. The United States Senate has adopted our plan, which is: 2006 has to be a transition year. That the Iraqis have to take responsibility now for what's going on. We were the ones that suggested, which is now being adopted by Republicans, that the Iraqis be required to have unity government based on this election. They need to take responsibility for this. We need over the next couple of years to bring our folks home. ...

"We need to deal with Iraq right now, in a thoughtful and sensible way. and we need to listen to the military, not just talk about listening to the military, which is what the President's doing."

    On The 2006 Midterm Elections:
"Do you want more of the same or a real change? We're going to give you a real change. We'll bring honesty and openness back to our government again, and create American jobs that will stay in America. We want a health care system that works for everybody. Look what the President did. The President didn't tell us the truth about Medicare Part D, this ridiculous drug program he has for Medicare, which is driving seniors crazy. We need a President who just tells us the truth."

BradBlog has the video.  It was a brilliant interview.  O'Brien kept trying to cut him off but Howard would not yield an inch.

The Democrats need to get their plan into the hands of as many voters as possible.

John Doll running for Congress in KS-01 took the slogan "Impossible Is NOTHING" for this year's campaign . If impossible is nothing for a democrat in KS-01 then it's a walk in the park to get 2200 people to donate 50 bucks.

    Now to something complete different

    Funny Bar Jokes

    50 Bucks
A man is sitting in a bar when a beautiful woman walks up and whispers in his ear, "I'll do anything you want for 50 bucks."

He puts his drink down and starts going through his pockets. He pulls out a ten, two five's, a twenty and ten ones.

He thrusts the wadded up money into the woman's hand and says, "Here...paint my house."

Some people do anything for Dean. Damn I would paint the sky blue for those 50 and give it to Dean.

Now is the time to step up to the plate and get behind Howard Dean. Stop listening to the naysayers and talking heads.

I heard Howard Dean speak in December at the national DNC meeting. His message and plan are simple:

Rebuild the party from the bottom up with a 50 state strategy. This is what Democrats stand for:

    Jobs
    Health care for all
    Education
    Honesty in government
    Renewable energy

It's time to show the party of corruption and death the door.

As Kos and Jerome said in their book- it's more realistic to recreate the Democratic party than
    go our own way.

Let's get behind Howard. He's shown us that he can get the job done. If our party royalty have no courage we need to do an end run around them.

See you on April 29. Plant a seed for our future.

  •  asdf (0+ / 0-)

I donated $30 for this effort.

  •  I am thrilled about this (0+ / 0-)

This is a very exciting project and I intend to do everything I can do make it work in my county.  I'm also glad to see it announced well in advance.  Sometimes the DNC springs stuff on local Dems without much consultation and little time to prepare.  This is a great heads-up.
