democracy for sale (Video)

Thu Mar 30, 2006 at 09:34:58 PM PDT

A good video introduction into the corrosive effects corporate lobbiests have on our "representative democracy".

If I had any power to reform I would start by removing the rights of corporations as individuals.

This short (25.5 min)documentary speaks clearly to the influence of corporate america upon the democracy our founders hoped for.

video source is sbs Australia dateline and hat tip to information clearinghouse for finding it.

enjoy.

Just add the word "natural" in front of "person"...

We have no intention of prosecuting Rush Limbaugh because lying through your teeth and being stupid isn't a crime.

    •  Changing the 14th... (0+ / 0-)

is a huge feat.  Would it not be easier to enact Federal legislation or code, that simply defines a "person" as a "person", rather than defining a "person" as a "corporation".

Actually, I don't see anything in the 14th that suggests a corporation is a person; rather, there is "code", which is ratified by the Supreme Court, that suggests the same.  It appears to me that no Constitutional Amendment is required, and this is the most extreme action.  All we need is a Congress who once again recognizes that a person is a person, and a corporation is not a person, and the Court will simply agree.

What was corruptly done in one of their opinions over a century ago, and they have notably failed to do so.

Amending the Constitution leaves them no choice.

and that is why I suggest that it is easier to amend Statutes or Code, than is it is to amend the Constitution.  Of course, even as it relates toward amending the Code, we need a sympathetic Congress.

But I am recommending it anyway.

This issue needs all the attention it can get. Treating corporations as individuals with free speech rights and rights to privacy gave us a MSM able and willing to commit acts that border on treason every single day simply to enrich the corporations that own these tools of propaganda.

    •  you just gave a great response (0+ / 0-)

to your own complaint  .  how does it not qualify ?  if it is info that needs to get out , it qualifies & yes you are 1000% right about the m$m ,  how do those d.j.'s sleep? how do they hope???    peace  .

Most dairies contain a lot of the writer’s own input in them built around the link they wish to provide or simply elaborating the point they wish to make. They also, if they can, provide links to other articles etc that boost their central theme.

We have to remember that for every diary posted, one is thrown off the front page. Usually that is not a problem because that diary may be redundant by then but if a person put a lot of effort into a diary, which is usually the case, we owe it to them to have their diary stay on the front page for as long as possible.

Very short diaries like yours are usually preferred on the front page on an open thread where they belong. Besides, the open threads stay up longer and more people get to read the thing.

That’s all I meant when I commented about your diary. No offence was meant and I hope none was taken. Thanks for the link to the excellent video.

        Peace.
