Dean's collapsing in NH. His lead in SC and other Feb 3 states was slim at best. He's done. Unless Wes Clark, my second choice, manages to pull it out, I simply won't care anymore. I'll go back to my little life of political obliviousness. One morning in November, I'll probably head over to the polls and do my duty. But that's assuming I don't have something else planned for that day.
Is that what Dean would want? No. But Dean's vision was of a nation where participation, activism, volunteering, populism, and speaking the truth reaped rewards. That nation doesn't exist.
This is a country where push polls, backroom deals, dirty campaigns and media cocksucking win elections.
You can blame it on the despicable media machine. You can blame it on Joe Trippi. You can blame it on Gephardt, Kerry, Edwards and the rest of that ugly lot. But the truth is, Dean's demise is our fault and the fault of every one of our fellow Americans who can't see past the warm, numbing glow of their television and see that honest, dedicated guy who helped the sick then helped his state.
I blame myself for not having the power to change a goddamn thing.
