The RNC, already enjoying a 3-1 money over the DNC, just
tacked on $14 million to its stash.
The Republican National Committee raised at least $14 million Wednesday at a gala featuring President Bush, expanding an already substantial fund-raising advantage over its Democratic rival [...]
Through August, the most recent figures available, the RNC raised about $69.6 million and had $24.6 million on hand. The DNC took in $26.3 million and had $7.8 million on hand.
The GOP has always vastly outspent Democrats, and it needs every penny as it sits on the wrong side of most major issues. But that money buys a lot of obfuscation, misdirection, and outright lies. We've got our work cut out for us.
But what's most amazing about this is the RNC's
fundraising pitch. (Hint -- lies are involved.)
President Bush's campaign--expected to dwarf Democratic hopefuls by raising $200 million or more for the primaries, with no GOP rival--is appealing for donations by portraying Bush as a fund-raising underdog who won't have enough cash to defend himself against Democratic attacks.
''Democrats and their allies will have more money to spend attacking the president during the nomination battle than we will have to defend him,'' campaign chairman Marc Racicot wrote in the fund-raising e-mail sent Wednesday night. ''If you need more convincing the president needs your help, consider what the Democrats are saying. The race is just starting, but their rhetoric is already red-hot.''
In other words, the RNC claims the Democrats will have more than $200 million to attack Bush.
Hyperbole? If you're charitable. Those guys lie so much they've lost all concept of reality.
