At least,
this is what Charlie Murphy thinks:
After months of speculation, it appears that what many fans feared would happen has indeed come to pass: "Chappelle's Show" is finished.
Comedian and cast member Charlie Murphy revealed in the new issue of TV Guide that the series is not coming back. " 'Chappelle's Show' is over, man. Done," Murphy told the magazine. "It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now because it's the truth."
Only thing is, Dave hasn't said word one about coming back or not coming back.
Charlie Murphy, a writer as well as a featured player in the show, as well as the elder brother of comic Eddie Murphy, says the show made him a star, thus making it easy for him to move on to supposedly bigger and better prospects. However, he had this to say about the show:
I'm disappointed it ended the way it did, but I'm not angry with anybody," he said. " 'Chappelle's Show' was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody's attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick."
Talk about diss...and Comedy Central insists that if Chappelle wants to come back, the door is open.
However, a new show has appeared on the horizon. D.L. Hughley's Comedy Central weekend show, "Weekends at the D.L." has just premiered...and I remember how sharp Hughley used to be before he got his ABC family show. Favorite topic, as always, are the too human things black people do. This time, he's going to have visitors, a la Leno and Letterman. Let's see how this flies, appearing Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
It would be good if Dave could do a few specials once in a while. Perhaps the pressure really did get to him.
