Ahhhhh--Springtime in Connecticut

Wed Apr 26, 2006 at 06:45:07 AM PDT

The chickadees and titmice are singing, the tulips and dogwoods are blooming, Leiberman is running scared, and 76% in a Hartford Courant/Connecticut poll disapprove of Bush.

Who could ask for anything more?

I always feel a bit of a spark this time of year.  Of course, this winter wasn't especially harsh, but cold is cold and snow is snow; so in spite of still-chilly nights, the pleasant 60-degree days are inspiring.

But this year, and this is even more inspiring, we are seeing a rebirth of sorts in Connecticut politics as Ned Lamont infects us with his enthusiasm and determination.  As we move closer to the May convention, I have more and more confidence that Lamont is going to find his way into the primary. We see more and more statements like this one (from the Hartford Courant):

McNamara estimates that more than half of New Britain's 31 delegates are leaning toward backing Lamont.

Sure there is work to do, but we're ready.  And the spring in my step was enhanced this morning when the top-of-the-fold headline on buzzflash was:  In Connecticut Poll, Bush's Approval is down to 24%.  I'm betting Leiberman wept when he saw the article in the Courant.

Spring in Connecticut.

Sure is sweet.

But not to worry,Brad Davis and Ray Dunaway will have ole Joe on their shows to puff him up and ask softball questions. Not to mention the millions Joe has in his war chest.

someone please offer Chris Murphy a spine transplant?

Again MoveOn.org is running ads attacking Nancy Johnson, and again it looks as though Murphy is going to turn tail, wimp out and distance himself from the truth, while the Johnson campaign hits back hard and looks strong.

Instead of whining that "outside parties" have no business interfering in CT politics, Murphy should issue a strongly worded statement that MoveOn is telling the truth about Johnson's coziness with Big Pharma.

Someone should tell Murphy that you don't win campaigns by backstabbing your allies and running from a fight. When Johnson hits him, he needs to hit back twice as hard, not apologize.

How did I get into a party of wimps?

Al Qeada is a faith-based initiative.

Exciting news. The results from the first round of TV ads are in. In each district, the Republican was ahead before the ads went on TV, and after the ads ran they're losing. Together we broke open the election in these places.

      And then:

Before the ad ran, Republican Nancy Johnson led Democratic challenger Chris Murphy 47% to 46%. After the ad Johnson is down 41% to 51%. That is a HUGE shift.
The shift was even bigger among Independents. It went from dead even at 45% to 45% to Democrat Murphy leading 55% to 35% over Johnson.
Among women voters the Democrat had a 1-point lead at 46% to 45% and now he leads 53% to 38%.
Just to be sure these changes weren't due to national trends, we also polled before and after in a comparable district where no ad was running. There, the Republican's lead increased.

Yup--Murphy needs to sail this ship.

many years ago that her constituents in the insurance industry need jobs, so she opposed national health insurance.

The wormy rotten SOB BJ Joe Lieberman, my money's on Lowell Weicker (I-But more of (D) than BJ Joe) throwing one hell of a party in Stonington.

BJ Joe, you brought this all on yourself, baby.  What was it, cash?  Ties to AIPAC?  Visions of greatness?  A free crashpad in Niantic with a regular stream of bimbos from Bank Street?

By the way Joe, what did your affair with the Right get for the state of Connecticut?  Big contracts for EB or Sikorsky?  Fed bucks pouring into the state?

As they say, the future of America starts in Connecticut this fall, with sending the GOP home and routing out turncoats like BJ Joe.
