Haley Barbour's Roots?

Fri Apr 28, 2006 at 08:57:41 PM PDT

I see a strong physical resembelence (as well as a common family name) between old-time New Jersey Republican U.S. Senator William Warren Barbour and current Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. But I can't find any record of them being related. Does anyone know if they are? (pictures and poll below the fold)

FYI: Haley was born in Mississippi in 1947. His father was a lawyer. Haley worked on Republican Nixon's (not Mississippi-winning independant George Wallace's) campaign in 1972, perhaps showing Republican roots. The New Jersey senator died in 1943.

William Warren Barbour died 4 years before Haley Barbour was even born.

That means they're not father and son. That was obvious, but not the question.

        related by not father/son. duh.

Well, wikipedia (for what it's worth) says that Haley's father was a lawyer...died 2 years after he was born.  Thats at least a possible connection.

if the "jowl-twins" are related but here's some interesting Barbour news...

My friend Larry Kestenbaum's comprehensive Political Graveyard lists something like 37 politicians named Barbour. Though familial relationships are sometimes noted at Larry's site, none are given for Haley Barbour.

Aside from Haley, only two are from Mississippi -- William H. and his son William H., Jr., both Democrats.  The latter recently took senior status as a judge in the US District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.  He was appointed by Reagan in 1983.

Not that that has any bearing on associations between Haley and the NJ Senator identified by Dvd.  (Hi, Dvd ... will we see you in Seattle this summer?)

Seattle's possible, but doubtful. I haven't even been to NY/NJ area events in the last few years. But if I have the money, maybe I'll step up my SABR activity this year. I could even combine it with a visit to a cousin I'd like to see.
