Oh, well ...
You know, I thought that my life was going to be kind of nice. I guess I was wrong.
Thank you Donald Rumsfeld.
Donald Rumsfeld on the TV just now (paraphrased quotes):
... A violent extremism that wants to take over Muslim lands from the Philipines to Spain ... danger on our doorstop ... if we don't stop them over there, we will be fighting them here in America ... We can't let them think that they can win in Iraq, because if they win in Iraq, they can win in Afghanistan ...
Um, sorry.
There is no "them."
(And does this man really think that Muslim extremists are going to try to take over America? WTF?)
There is a tiny -- albeit dangerous -- movement of ideologically-oriented Muslim terrorists out there. Sure.
But the vast majority of Muslims just want to have a good life, like me. They want to take care of their families. Live in shelter, eat good food, be happy and feel like they are doing right in the world.
Honestly, I just don't feel motivated right now to engage in a war against the Muslim World that will last my entire lifetime. I can't figure out why I would want to be a part of such a thing.
Terrorist dangers, such as they exist, can never be combatted by declaring conventional or nuclear warfare against states.
To say otherwise is a lie.
I'm looking at Donald Rumsfeld right now.
He's not a stupid person.
So, I think he must be a liar. And I'm wondering why he's spinning out all of these lies about America being threatened to its core by Muslim "extremism." Our huge country and hundreds of millions of people, our powerful technologies, our amazing infrastructure -- none of this is under existential threat by "terrorists." That is just impossible.
Sure, we might be attacked by terrorists, but America won't be vanquished by them.
Why is this man lying us into a global conflict with one billion people?
What is in it for him?
He doesn't seem to have the will for conquest that, say -- Hitler -- might have.
Does he simply hate mankind?
Anyway, go ahead, Donald Rumsfeld, have your global clash of civilizations. I really don't want any part of it. Call it treason, call it anything you want ... I'm not at war with half the countries on the planet. I'm at peace with the Muslim World. And I'm at peace with myself.
I think that the real danger that threatens America is sitting in the Senate chamber right now trying to lie this country into a state of permanent war against half the world.
I'm going to go and get a coffee now. Secretary Rumsfeld, get back to me later and let me know how this war thing of yours is going.
