Anyone else find it remarkable that after the 5 day blitzkrieg of media coverage following his capture there hasn't really been any notable reporting on this man since?
During the PM's questions last week a British MP had mentioned that Hussein was being held on Cypruss which I would understand- they certainly don't want him in Iraq. They'd want to hold him in a totally controlled environment in order to serve him a mind fuck worthy of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984. False newspapers, sleep depreviation, drugs- we may not torture per se but I bet we can use a strobe light and loud, obnoxious music to great effect!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Hussein isn't somewhat deserving of his current predicament. He should have realized years ago that this would be his fate when he first started dealing with the United States! But that story is not the purpose of this diary. I'm more intent on the seeming lack of media interest in Hussein's whereabouts and the definite lack of media coverage regarding it.
Who's the most "evil" and "dangerous" man on the planet? Bush Jr. would like us all to believe it's Saddam but for some weird reason, the media acts like it's Michael Jackson. Now, we didn't just invade and occupy the Wonderland Ranch for regime change purposes yet Michael is covered around the clock. It's probably asking too much for the networks and cable to actually do some investigating into Saddam's whereabouts but it's rather troubling that the average American knows more about Michael Jackson than the man we just spent upwards of $250,000,000,000 and the lives of over 500 American soldiers to remove from power.
So, where the Hell is this guy? What's going on with him? Is he languishing in a cell in the Mediterranean or trying to catch a glimpse of Baghdad's spires while being frog-marched around his former airport during 'stretch time'?
There was talk of a trial some time ago. Hell, the majority of Iraqi's seem to want to string him up post-haste. Although I do have a nagging suspicion that majority lessens in number as the occupation continues.
I've seen a lot of bloggers and wandering posters (like me) post about the possibility of an 'October Surprise'. Some have even suggested the administration has "OBL on ice" (sorry but LOL). Isn't it possible that this 'October Surprise' is right under our noses? We all know that the only argument Bush has left for his reckless invasion of Iraq is the "evil" and "dangerous" Saddam. Isn't it possible that Saddam is on ice for just this reason?
Is it even the slightest bit hard to believe that Hussein's trial will begin sometime in September and continue up until the election? Is Rove the genius that so many give him credit for being? Afterall, this would be the perfect, compelling, political story for the perfect, compelling, political invasion of Iraq.
