From the start, I had a lot of good reasons for opposing impeachment. I will not list them here, because recently I realized that, while there may be any number of good reasons to oppose impeachment, there is really only one reason why
I oppose it...
I am opposed to impeachment out of pure, petty, spiteful revenge. America has spoken. Good. America asked for another four years of George Bush; I want America to have them.
I don't want to open up any exit doors on that choice. I want every single American who helped secure a second term for George W. Bush to get the government they deserve. I want them to endure every last month, week, day, hour, and minute of another full four years of George W. Bush. This includes the tens of millions of Democrats who were way too busy trying to live like Republicans to be bothered, and those who were too self-indulgent to canvass or phonebank because they just weren't "comfortable with that." And those who did nothing to ensure we had reliable and accurate voting systems in place for 2004, because oh gosh, someone might snicker at them and call them a conspiracy theorist.
If I seriously thought any lasting lessons would be learned from this experience, then I could frame my desire more altruistically. But I don't. It's just revenge, plain and simple, and it won't be sweet. But I want it anyway.
No absolution, no impeachment.
