According to a fellow poster
Louise here on dKos and the German newspaper
Die Zeit, the PDB released by the Bush Administration this morning contains only a fraction of the actual PDB.
Louise sez:
"The White House apparently has released only the first and last pages of an 11 1/2 page document. If 911 is becoming Watergate, then the 9-page gap is a weirdly creepy version of Rosemary Woods' "18 minute gap."
An English translation of the Die Zeit article is
here.
The original German is here.
CNN has the PDF scan of the released document here.
It is true that the page numbers are blacked out on the released document. Why "page 1 of 2" or whatever could be harmful to the nation's security is beyond me, maybe Melanie or someone with more exposure to our intelligence apparatus can explain that one to me.
Also - the text transition is awfully choppy between pages 1 and 2:
"We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting such as that from a [redacted] service in 1998 saying that Bin Ladin wanted to hijack an aircraft to gain the release of "Blind Shaykh" Umar Abd-Al Rahman and other US-held extremists"
(page break here)
"Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for
hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York."
Bobo62 notes that there is not a problem with the translation, that the Die Zeit article used the word "elfeinhalb Seiten" - German for "eleven and a half."
(getting tinfoil hat)
Seems to me that this needs to be looked into.
