New York Times ombudsman Daniel Okrent takes his first step today by admitting Times coverage of Dean has had it's issues.
NY Times.
Although he seeks to downplay the actual amount of bias, he admits that the volume of mail and e-mail the Times received provoked his examination of their coverage, but in my opinion, he does not go far enough, leaving the issue of Times coverage of Democrats vs. Times coverage of Bush raised but unexamined. This demonstrates why it is important that supporters of all candidates continue to speak up when they feel their candidate has not received a fair shake.
I also see the hand of the CJR campaign desk in Okrent's discussion of the story regarding Dean's aide. CJR is an important resource, and it is clear to me that they are just beginning to swing their weight around.
