In all the discussions about culture wars, gay marriage, and Howard Stern being fired, I hadn't seen
this little number pop up in the diaries.
It's understandable. There's so much news out there it's hard to track it all. And besides: flying out under the radar was more than likely Perle's intent.
Richard Perle, a lightning rod for critics of the Bush administration's national security policies, informed Rumsfeld more than two weeks ago he was quitting the Defense Policy Board. He confirmed the decision in a letter to the defense chief last Wednesday.
"We are now approaching a long presidential election campaign, in the course of which issues on which I have strong views will be widely discussed and debated," Perle wrote. "I would not wish those views to be attributed to you or the President at any time, and especially not during a presidential campaign."
The neo-con boys are collectively doing a great imitation of Secret Service Agents, taking metaphorical bullets for Dubya as it comes to light that, in these past 4 years of running this country as an ideological juggernaut, nothing has been accomplished that would make us want to reelect him. Their new strategy appears to be to draw as much fire away from the president to make him look good for November.
Eh...regardless: good riddance to bad rubbish.
