There has been much talk today about our own Orwellian, Machiavelli, Karl Rove.
Some great analysis:

We've had some wicked outrage by really big and important Democrats demanding apologies and resignations:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/06/23/rove.speech.ap/index.html
and of course the usual White House dismissals of partisan politics: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2005/06/23/national/a090505D35.DTL
(You have to look for it; it's there.)
I guess what Rove said wasn't partisan. (Good grief!)
Now evidently, the Democrats think maybe they can get Rove against the ropes with their indignation and demands for apologies for his outrageous, laughable vaudeville performance.
Unfortunately, again, it's the Democrats being outfoxed with the classic, Rope-a-Dope technique.
Remember the Rope-a-Dope technique developed by Ali? He was a bit out of shape, a bit over weight and not able to go punch for punch against the powerful, chiseled, strong man, George Foreman. (Yeah, he's come a long way from then. But back in the day? Whew!) So Ali backed up against the ropes of the ring and lured Foreman into Ali throwing punch after punch, finally punching himself out, before Ali lowered the boom. (In fairness, some say the ropes were loosened a bit to let Ali lean back farther than normal and escape the onslaught of Foreman's powerful jabs and hooks.)
When will the Democrats get a clue?
We had a little poll here today: When will Karl Rove Apologize?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/23/14238/5839
The choices were:
Never
Tomorrow
The Weekend
Next Week
July
August
With more than 150 votes (as of this writing) 97% of us said, "Never."
Doesn't take a genius, right?
The more the Democrats swing at Rove, the more he (and the machine) evades the jabs with little counter punches of `partisan politics,' for round after round after round.
Meanwhile, the momentum gained in recent weeks from the DSMs etc. goes flailing away in a hail of self-righteous punches that never land, but somehow makes Democrats feel they are in the good fight.
As I said in a thread earlier today: http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2005/6/23/13262/6222/122#122
Let's Keep Our Eye on the Ball.
Please don't let these calculated attempts to get our collective goat, let us stray from our purpose: Bush lied. He betrayed our nation and the people with high crimes and he needs to be held accountable.
