Obama states the following:
I.
"While they hope Roberts doesn't swing the court too sharply to the right, a majority of Americans think that the President should probably get the benefit of the doubt on a clearly qualified nominee."
II.
"They don't think America is an imperialist brute,"
I. Okay, just look at all the appointments and nominees that have come from George W. Bush, whether we are talking about FEMA, the Attorney General's office, the FCC, the Sec. of State, the EPA, his entire Oil Industry &
Project For The New American Century based Cabinet & his
Iraq-Group, as well as his other horrifying judical appointments (Owens, Brown-Roberts), etc., already forced upon us.
So, with that deplorable track record, -- by what right does Bush then either earn or deserve the benefit of the doubt on the Roberts appointment, much less blind trust on such an important selection?
What is wrong with Roberts (a member of the Federalist-Society) having to prove himself on merit and on cooperative full-disclosure of all the questions that were put to him and on cooperation about the documentation of his own record that was requested?
Clearly, Roberts never passed that public test!
Hence, his lack of open, cooperation makes him unfit by his own performance to be approved for Supreme Court Justice -- much less the Chief Justice of our land.
And, with Bush's own track record on appointments no benefit of the doubt is wisely afforded.
II. The facts and the evidence here show that America, as under the policies of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and George W. Bush, is quite clearly and irrefutably an imperialistic brute whether or not this is acknowledged by the mainstream media and whether or not some Americans remain either misinformed or apathetic about those facts.
We have needlessly killed some 100,000 innocent children, woman, and male civilians living in the Country of Iraq. Thus, we have caused 33 times the degree of terror as what we had endured ourselves on September 11th, and we perpetrated that terror on a Country which never attacked us and based on "reasons" that were both false and fraudulent.
We have constructed detention camps and tortured human life in front of the eyes of the whole world.
We have allowed American-based corporations to occupy & control the natural resources of an independent, sovereign, nation and engage in historic, record-breaking War-Profiteering by means of bloodshed & Military Occupation.
And, we did all this by first throwing aside the peaceful U.N. Weapons Inspections process that could have resolved concerns about Iraq's assumed weapons & compliance without such unspeakable tragedy & horror & the devastation of an entire Country, and without such disgrace on the World stage.
Simply put, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and acts like a duck -- call it a Duck!
This Country has lost it's moral framework, it's global prestige, it's national purpose, and it's hope for the future -- when such reckless, murderous barbarism, butchery, brutality, human carnage, and total lack of respect for human life is considered somehow to be acceptable foreign policy making ( -?- ) by United States politicians in Washington.
There is no excuse and there is no defense.
This is not a case of "bad intelligence".
It is a case, as the Downing Street Memos make clear, of fraudulent intelligence, deliberate, abusive fear-mongering, self-orchestrated propaganda, and murderous perversion of the office of the Presidency -- for which mere impeachment would be far too forgiving a penalty.
Simply put, if any other Nation on planet Earth had done to another Country what the Bush Administration had done to Iraq -- we would demand that they be held accountable for War Crimes!
___________
Finally, if we are to lead a new progressive movement and create the kind of Country that we once thought that we had read about in history books and imagined that we had lived in -- we need to stand-up in clear, unmistakeable, defiant, and unshakeable opposition to the current horror and loss of our Nation's entire soul that this Bush-Cheney power cartel has wrought upon the once admired United States of America.
These people deserve no respect, they deserve no benefit of the doubt, they deserve no accomodation, they deserve no sheltering of critical analysis, and they deserve no escape from the rule of law, nor escape from accountability to the Geneva conventions.
No Obama, the answer is not to mute our disgust, nor mute our criticism, nor give them the benefit of the doubt, the answer is to start speaking out and start defeating this whole ideology, this whole way of thinking -- before it imprisons us and the World any further!
I invite you to read & reflect upon President John Kennedy's American University speech from June 10, 1963 where he outlined the principles of a new & wiser & more ethical course of thinking for American Foreign Policy (rejecting the rigid Cold-War dogma), and where he said:
"What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war! We are unwilling to impose our system on any unwilling people--but we are willing and able to engage in peaceful competition with any people on earth.
Let us focus instead on a more practical, more attainable peace-- based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions. World peace, like community peace, does not require that each man love his neighbor--it requires only that they live together in mutual tolerance, submitting their disputes to a just and peaceful settlement. Our problems are manmade--therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings.
The United States, as the World knows, will never start a War. We don't want a War. We don't now expect a War. We are not helpless before that task or hopeless of its success. Confident and unafraid, we labor on--not toward a strategy of annihilation, but toward a strategy of peace."
-John Kennedy, June 10, 1963
Corruption of our government can only occur when good men remain silent.
Hope occurs when people dare protest.
It is long past the time to Speak Out!
