Somewhat Warped, but Positive, Sign in Gossip Column

Wed Jun 07, 2006 at 08:49:58 AM PDT

Jeannette Walls does a gossip column for MSNBC called 'Jeannette Walls Delivers the Scoop.' The lead item in the linked column has to do with K-Fed's opinion of Britney's hiring of a male nanny...

I have no idea why I read the article in the first place, but if you read it to the end you'll find an item on Janeane Garafolo and Sam Seder having a spat on the set of the Majority Report.

I don't know anything about the alleged spat. I don't really care. Gossip, even celebrity gossip, is kind of ugly.

What I do know is that names like Sam Seder and The Majority Report are appearing in CELEBRITY gossip columns. They are implicitly given cultural icon status, with the assumption that they should be of interest to the pop-culturally literate.

Pardon me if it seems strange, but I'm going to celebrate what looks like one big step for the Left Wing Noise Machine.

    I heard it.

I am happier when Sam does the show alone.

If some of the celebrity types want to help Americans be more aware of issues that matter, they could hang out (or at least show up) with the fighting Dems, or at YK, or visit the Wilson's.

Do they care about Global Warming?  Tell them to listen in on Energize America.

The celeb gossip media would be an excellent way to reach out to Americans that think politics is dry, and you are right that Seder's appearance in the gossip column is interesting.

Janeane says it like it is. If someone deserves to be exposaed or denounced, you can usually count on her to do it. When something needs saying, she usually says it, often bluntly and to the point.

Sam is more circumspect and diplomatic. But he also usually comes through with facts that support Janeane's blunt statements. He also adds some good zingers from time to time himself.

I'd really love it if they devoted an hour to a fair and balanced discussion of the alleged W-Condi relationship, and W's alleged earlier 1984 doings.

If they could get Leola (?), the one who claims to have known W well back in 1984, to go on the air with them at length, it would be memorable radio.

If they've done this topic in depth already, my apologies. The DC station I listen to AA on often pre-empts Majority Report with a noname ball game once or twice a week when Majority Report is on. I've sent the station negative e-mail about this, but things don't seem to change.

What you see is what you get, but what you don't see is what ends up getting you.
