He wins by four percent in a hugely Republican area and the world stops spinning?!

Fuck that.

The intensity of the contest and the closeness of the result underscored the problems Republicans face in trying to keep control of Congress at a time when many Americans have expressed discontent with President Bush, Congress and the Republican Party. In a normal election year, this district would not even be near the playing field: Mr. Bush defeated John Kerry by 10 points here in 2004, and Republicans have a 44 percent to 29 percent edge over Democrats in voter registration.

The National Republican Congressional Committee spent at least $5 million here to help Mr. Bilbray; Democrats spent about $2 million backing Ms. Busby.

Get that? To hang on to a seat they should have pocketed, the Republicans had to spend two-and-a-half times what we spent. That's $750,000 a percentage point, people.

This guy has to defend this seat again in less than five months.

Hit him again.

And again.

We're winning and this proves it.

  This is a winnable seat. Busby did her best to defeat him in the first attempt and brought the 22 point margin down to 4. Its very doable in November and she needs our support.

    Dems need to investigate Bilbray's residency issue and Busby needs to exploit it. He gave his mother's resident as his address but never lived there.

•  Some frustrating numbers

  In the special election in April, the one that required yesterday's runoff and had only one candidate and no other issues, Busby received 60,010 votes.
  In yesterday’s runoff Busby received 55,587 votes to
  Bilbray's 60,319

  Overall turnout was significantly down, but dammit, we had almost 4500 people showing up to vote in the special election with 18 candidates, but who couldn't be bothered yesterday.
