Visions of Sugar Plums, Neo-Con Edition

Last night I spoke with a local activist. Astute woman. We had a good discussion centering on Social Security and the economy.  I wish more were as concerned as she about the politically fragile times we're in.

As we talked she lead me to a question.  She had commented that the Neo-cons, for such a small majority, have been extremely successful in controlling the national agenda and effectively instituting not only their programs, but have set mechanisms in place to further their agenda that without extreme vigilance and an informed electorate, will become inevitable.

The question is, other than power and control, what is/are their ultimate goals?  Profit for a few, policy control, military dominance and a resultant police state as a necessary adjunct.  But we need to counter their overall vision, and I have difficulty picturing their grand vision.  If these policies are allowed to continue, what will be the end social picture?

After dissenters are in detention facilities or are disappeared, after the profits are skimmed and debtors are enslaved, when corporations rule without watchdogs and become feudal lords, after worldwide continuing low grade warfare saps the planets resources, when education and health costs fall wholly on individuals, when media has only New Speak and the blogs have been silenced, and all state matters are state secrets,  when they've brought "democracy" at gun-point to the world, when their financial-cleansing is complete and when only the powerful and rich have adequate medical care, food, shelter and clothing and the rest of us live in fear and exist only to serve as we worship the gods they define.. What then? What do they want? What is the Neo-con end game?  Have they given it as much thought and planning as they did promoting the occupation of Iraq, seemingly without a plan beyond, "They will greet us as liberators"? How do they picture the Neo-con society when their goals are met?

I've been asked why do I not understand that there are people in the world who wish us harm and who hate America and Americans.  Why do I not understand that we must aggressively defend our way of life?  I get it.  I understand that the world is a dangerous place. What I don't understand is either/or thinking.  What I don't understand is a fatal lack of exploration of alternatives.  What I don't understand is the society Neo-cons dream of, what I don't understand is why they believe they must destroy America to save it.  What am I missing?

An aside, I wonder how much gas will cost today.

  •  Destroying America to save it... (0+ / 0-)

creates jobs and new opportunities for the economic elites. This is the neocon dream. The neocon menschen philosophers will get their golden crumb from the table of their corporatist overlords.
    This is their payback.

Example: New Orleans is in cold storage for the moment...until the potential marginal profit levels rise to the level that is appropriate for beneficial risk/reward ratios to appear favorable.

  •  The Rapture (0+ / 0-)

The rapture will come when the last tree is felled in the last forest.

I am NOT kidding...there are people who actually believe this...and they're ALL neocons.

    Not all neocons are rapturists.
    All rapturists are neocons.
