As one argument goes - gay marriage can lead to group marriages or people marrying animals and then possibly plants and inanimate objects. Well if you follow that line of thinking, heterosexual marriages start the whole chain. In order to nip this all in the bud, perhaps there should be no more marriages, period.
By the way, if you know of anyone dating their dog or a plant, that is a good time to start an intervention. I have read stories of men having sex with dogs, no reports of a marriage proposal though. So maybe it is just the sex they are after. Dogs indeed.
Then there are those who want more than one spouse, polygamy - which it has been said same sex marriages will also encourage. Although polygamy is currently illegal it is also already practiced by many. Which shows those who think they are religiously right don't always agree on what is right. Which is why religious freedom is a good idea, because we don't all have the same religion.
How about marriage is between 2 adults (over 18) until further notice?
Equal marriage rights for ALL is not a religious institution we're talking about, we're talking about the same rights under the law not under the temple roof. Our government is under the Constitution not the Old Testament. Let the religious people discuss what they think is moral or not and live by that and let the government fulfill it's obligation to provide equal rights for all. Let's remember to keep the church and state separate.
Another (moot) point says gays can't marry because there have been no studies indicating such a marriage would be a good environment for kids. Well, first of all, some gays don't have nor want kids - just like straight couples. Secondly, there are straight dysfunctional families up the whazoo and no one is saying marriage should be banned because of that. Fathers molesting their daughters - no marriage ban. Mothers neglecting their children - no marriage ban. Kids sitting fire to the house - no marriage ban. Parents who are "swingers" - no marriage ban. Get off your high horses people you're no better than anyone else - straight, gay, religious or not.
They argue, "Gay-marriage is an assault on traditional marriage" and therefore needs to be amended into the Constitution to protect traditional marriage. They will also need to add amendments against adultery and spouse abuse if protecting marriage is their real concern.
Another dumb argument, "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." Well he didn't have to. He also didn't make TV's, cars or domestic dogs. He knew we'd figure it out. I don't really think god is a he nor needs to be capitalized because my god is not a testosterone-filled egomaniac, which makes me think, aren't we're supposed to aspire to his image not make him in ours?
What kind of illogical thinking it is that every human being on the planet is going to be born straight? It's like saying we're all going to be born right-handed or in perfect physical health or with the same color skin. Differences are normal in our physicality's, personalities, spiritualities, emotions - not one of us is the same nor are we supposed to be.
There are more "reasons" against equal marriages for all, which are really attempts to justify bigotry which all come from fear, which is why it is important for gay people to come out and show your neighbor's, co-workers and everyone else that we are human, period. We work, pay bills, sleep, eat, watch videos, have friends, go home for the holidays, walk the dog, you get the idea.
