Happening now?
"In the...flood...a break in the...[levee]...killed 1,835 people and forced the evacuation of...[thousands] more. Ten thousand animals drowned, and 4,500 buildings were destroyed. To prevent such a tragedy from happening again, an ambitious flood defense system was conceived and deployed..."
Does this sound familar? Or sound like it could be happening right now?
It happened in the 1950s. Massive flooding killed 1800+ people in the Netherlands.
How would you like to hear about a similar natural disaster that occurred, and that resulted in a public works project (HORRORS!) that solved a huge problem?
More below the fold...
The good men and women in the Netherlands know a LOT about flood control. They're the world's experts.

If I was a politician in New Orleans right now, I would be on the phone with some flood control experts in the Netherlands. I would fly those folks to the USA, and I would start planning a fix.
The GOP is dead set against public works projects, unless the involve war or oil exploration.
I say screw the GOP.
If the Dutch can do it, we can do it.
Save New Orleans!
