Republicans & The Hate In Their Hearts

Thu Jul 27, 2006 at 06:42:48 PM PDT

I just received a very disturbing text message from a Republican acquaintance of mine. It just goes to show just how hateful and hypocritical these fascista are.

You'll have to see below to read the hateful and racist text I just received, but it's very demonstrative to what is funny in Republican/bigot circles.

See below.

This is the text message received just minutes ago on my phone.
It costs 10 cents to send a text message which can feed a child in Africa for almost a day. Send this to 7 of your friends & starve the little nigger [for a week].

They covered hunger, racism, and the 3rd world in under 150 characters. This is what entertain's Republicans.

And these are the types of people elected Democrats are concerned to upset.

Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, & Dick Devos all laugh at this text message. This is their brand of humor.

This is who we're up against.

...if it really bothers me, I ask them not to send them.

Otherwise, I shake my head, delete the message and continue to wish the best for them.

One of the people involved is a Korean and Vietnam veteran that has been instrumental in providing tremendous personal support to me. I will not write him off because he has some views with which I find no sympathy. He has many, many qualities beyond these.

      Here's a story:

I knew a woman. A single mother, living on the dole, and cleaning houses to make ends meet. In the floor below her, lived an old Armenian couple. He was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, so he was darn old. They were also dirt poor. At one time, he had been a scientist, but they had been driven from Lebanon, and now had nothing.

They were involved with the local Salvation Army (or "Sally," as we call it). You could find them at Xmas time in the mall, ringing bells.

Every Sunday, they would go to the Sally, and return with day-old bagels. They would hang a bag of the best ones for my friend and her kid.

These are the best people, right?

They were also outspoken bigots. They didn't like black people, and would say the most outrageous stuff.

Nevertheless, my life is richer for having known them.

presumptuous.  By way of apology, here's a transporting text from the sixth century Persian philosopher and mystic of Islam, Rumi.  It might make a good e mail in cases like this:

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.  I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
        doesn't make any sense.

We tend towards black and white, "binary" worldviews. It is hard work to keep a truly open mind. In my case, just when I think I've got the darn thing open, I find something else that shows me I still need work.

These friends of mine certainly don't have open minds, so the first rule is that we can only expect things from ourselves. With others, we can only accept.

        That's what's going on here.

Racism is nothing more or less than "my tribe good, their tribe bad."  No doubt plenty of rabid racists are also very nice to the people around them, because the people around them are "their tribe."  That however does not make the racism any less evil, nor the tribalism any more viable as an excuse or rationalization.

What's needed, as the antidote to this, is:

        a) On the secular & civic level, reinforcement of the point that we are all humans first, and in America we are all Americans, and if we are Americans then part of our creed is that opening line in the Declaration of Independence that says ALL are created equal.

        b) On the spiritual and religious side, each of the world's religions' core beliefs include the value of respecting others, practicing love and compassion, and so on.  Each (or most anyway) also has various beliefs, seldom at their core, about tribal loyalties and hatreds.  The key here is to keep the focus on love and compassion, which drive out fear, and in doing so, drive out hate.

  •  Yeah, I Get Them All the Time (0+ / 0-)

It's amazing. All these emails about supporting the troops and being a good christian (many really nice emails about charity and morals), then one or two hate-soaked zingers about Islam and "brown peepel."

    Pretty disgusting.

  •  It barely makes sense (0+ / 0-)

At first I thought it was telling you that sending a text message would get some kid food for a day.

Also, who uses text messages and doesn't have some "unlimited" plan at this point?

Jumping on the politicalcompass.org bandwagon: (-3.63, -3.03) - Does that make me part of the right wing here?

that I gave $10 to Doctors Without Borders because of him.  Just now:

    Donation Confirmation

Thank you for your online donation to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

I got their newsletter today, which had pictures of refugees fleeing the attacks in the Congo.  Darfur "hanging by a thread" and Niger: "Response improves but situation still critical" and I was thinking I should donate.

He pushed me over the edge.

Who do you think goes to the Bohemian Grove?  Skull and Bones?

    What do they do there?

They have private intellectual discussions about policy that is designed for as many black people to die in Africa as possible so their resources can be used more profitably.

    These discussions go like this:

There are no major civilizations in black populations.

They have no genetic drive.  As long as they are fed they sing, dance, and have hot sex.

Personal experiences are then related:  big cars, slum homes.  Their own men don't want their women.

    Justifies actions:

Selling drugs by the government in the hood--documented by Maxine Waters.

Imprisoning and targeting as many young black men as possible to keep down the populations.  Success rate: since the 60's blacks have gone from 12% of the population to 7% in the US.

Don't tell the Katrina victims where they are going and scatter them.  Permanently alter voting demographics.

We watch, we know, we understand what is happening and why.

We refuse to admit that to the 1% cabal we are all n...... now.

  •  that reminds me... (0+ / 0-)

When I was a young teen/pre-teen, I was at a hotel for a weekend event, and while we were waiting, I was off to the side watching a TV monitor. For some reason, the TV was showing what appeared to be a live transcription of police-band radio. Apparently it was a slow night downtown for the cops:

COP 1: So I hear they've got this new cereal for black people.
COP 2: Yeah, what's it called?
    COP 1: Nuttin', bitch!

(yes, that was apparently a play on the then-current Nut 'n Honey cereal commercials...)

I was stunned. I had been through downtown before, I had seen ambulances there responding to shootings. And all I could think of was "these are the cops that are going to be expected to respond to the scene?"

  •  who are the real bigots? (0+ / 0-)

"leftist logic" -- one republican sends a racist message, therefore "proof" that ALL republicans are racists and bigots.

it is disturbing that you clowns are brainwashed to the extent that you actually believe the "logic" of this lunacy and hypocrisy.

When I receive crap like that, I choose to believe that it ONLY represents that tiny % that still believes things are going great in Iraq.

Granted, what you posted was more concise than anything I have ever received, and more blatently racist too.

It's good for you to remind us of how awful some "Americans" are.
