The significance of the September 11 and March 11 dates in the Islamic world should be no mystery to the historian.
Dates are extremely important in Islamic culture. The position of the moon, the dictates of prayer, and the recognition of holy days are all prime factors of Islamic life. So it stands to reason that terrorist attacks would be planned to coincide with certain important dates.
September 11 - This really requires little thought. Of course, September 11, 1922 is when the British Mandate of Palestine began.
March 11 - This is a 'no brainer.' On March 11, 1917 General Sir Frederick Stanley Maude captured Baghdad for the British, locking their hold on the territory. And what quote is Sir Stanley most remembered for? It could have come right out of GWB's mouth:
'Our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators.'
And what are Osama's two biggest beefs? How about the Western occupation of Palestine and Iraq? Hmmm...
These dates clearly have significance and should be considered by those attempting to diagnose when future attacks might occur.
