Yesterday, the Bradblog ran a
story about John Conyers buying up domain names. I started thinking about why he might be doing this and whether as Brad Friedman said it "may suggest a forthcoming report based on ongoing investigations held by the Ranking Minority member of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee."
Then, I started searching around this site for things Conyers has said and done and it all fell into place. There is a report, and DailyKos helped with it. If I am right, that would be a very significant first for open source research.
On July 8, Conyers
asked us to help create a timeline: ""I would like your assistance in helping me prepare a comprehensive chronology--a time line of everything we know about the fixation with war in Iraq, the manipulation of intelligence, and the deliberate misrepresentations made both to the Congress and to the public." He didn't say why, though.
In the same diary, he commented "if what I have seen here so far is any indication, the end result is going to be exceedingly valuable in any form." Valuable, for what?
On July 22, after releasing the chronology, Conyers said: "However, I am not done yet. It is just a draft, and obviously, the story of DSM, Rovegate, and the ongoing deception in Iraq is still evolving." Not done with what else?
On September 13, in another Conyers diary, sgilman commented: "He's the only Congressman That has asked us for help - not just money(which I'm glad to give as well)."
Conyers replied: "This gives me the opportunity to let you know that your labors on prewar intelligence manipulations were not only appreciated, but are being used. I will have more details on that in the next month or so." Used for what?
On 11/8/2005, in another Conyers diary, Welshman asked "....Did you and the other eighty Congressmen get a reply to your letter to the President regarding the Downing Street Minutes?"
Conyers replied: " we did not but that is only the beginning of the story...more on that in a few weeks."
