NYC-- ACTION TONIGHT: NYC for NYBri or Kossacks for Keeler

Thu Aug 17, 2006 at 09:05:34 AM PDT

Calling all tri-state kossacks!

Having just returned from helping get Ned elected in CT, I am excited to announce a brand-new, roll-up-your-sleeves initiative for the netroots in NYC:

NYC for NYBri or Kossacks for Keeler

As a fellow kossack with some field and organizing experience, I have volunteered to spearhead certain NYC-based activities ( e.g. phonebanking, recruitment of volunteers, etc.) to support our very own NYBri / Brian Keeler's campaign for state senate in Columbia and Dutchess Counties:

Brian Keeler for NY State Senate | A New New York

And I need your help.

As most of you know, this is a critical campaign for NY.  We need to pick up four senate seats to make it a clean sweep in Albany in November (we already have a supermajority in the assembly, and barring an extreme, exogenous event, a lock on the governorship, too).  And while we are all concerned with righting the decades of wrongs that have marked the legislative process in Albany, we should also be ecstatic at the prospect of redistricting the state for a pickup of 4-6 seats in congress in 2008 and 2010.

For more information on the importance and national significance of this race, be sure to read pontificator's excellent diary  published on the eve of the gate-crashing, groundbreaking blograiser organized by our own Tom Ball back in July.  And to really get you ready to rock, check out Tom's most recent clarion call here.

Because we have a critical mass of committed, highly-motivated kossacks in NYC, we have an excellent opportunity to launch a model program for turning online activism on DK into boots-on-the-ground support of an exceptional candidate -- and a fellow kossack!

So please come to a first meeting of all interested kossacks tonight, Thursday, August 17 at 7PM at Starbucks on the NW corner of 29th and Park. We'll catch-up, tell tales of our amazing experiences helping Ned get elected in CT, and have a formal meeting to discuss specific organized opportunities to support NYBri and "Take Back New York."

Please RSVP to mindoca at aol dot com if at all possible.  If you have already responded, no need to do so again.

Thanks to all and look forward to seeing you tonight.

Rock the boat -- again!
