Bush raises $500k today in MN - help Patty Wetterling!

Tue Aug 22, 2006 at 11:40:45 AM PDT

Our dear leader is in the Twin Cities today, appearing at a fundraiser for one Michelle Bachmann.  She's a state legislator who is running for Congress in Minnesota's sixth district, a district currently represented by the vile Mark Kennedy.
Michelle Bachmann is of the extreme right wing and is best known in Minnesota for her hysteria over gay marriage, which she attempts to ban each legislative session. See http://dumpbachmann.blogspot.com/ for the gory details. Her campaign reports today that Bush's visit has raised over half a million dollars for the Bachmann campaign.

In the other corner we have Patty Wetterling.  For those not in the know, Patty came to prominence sixteen years ago when her young son Jacob disappeared in a stranger abduction.  No trace of Jacob has ever been found.  Patty became a nationally known child safety advocate, and everyone my age (I'm a few years younger than her son Jacob) who grew up in Minnesota has clear memories of Patty visiting our schools to talk to us about safety.  She has sky high approval and name recognition ratings and when she ran against Mark Kennedy in 2004, she gave him a run for his money in this conservative district.

Patty is an excellent candidate and Michelle Bachmann is a hatemongering shrew.  Please consider visiting http://www.pattywetterling.com and making a donation to offset today's Bush dog and pony show.

I read Patty Wetterling's story, I am awed by the amount of strength and resolve she must have in order to not only survive her ordeal, but turn it into a source of strength for her political activism and activities.

The contrast between the two candidates could not be more stark.

A foolish consistency (staying the course in Iraq) is the hobgoblin of George W. Bush.

There was a discussion on MPR this morning in which they claimed that despite low numbers in polls, the president still had great influence over the party base and that they will likely raise a good deal of money for Bachman.
I can't imagine Bachman representing MN.  It would be a new low.  Still,
I don't know how Wetterling can do in that district, which seems to support republicans more often and in spite of the general
leanings of the rest of the state.  Any idea what the numbers look like in this race?

Patty Wetterling outraised Bachmann by 2:1 for April-June, even though Bachmann got a visit by Rove and Cheney. Now she's getting Bush's help. Clearly this is a seat that's in trouble for the GOP, and they're throwing everything they have at at.

This diary has been linked in the US-06: Election Race Diary Rescue Roundup (8/23). Any and all comments and/or support are appreciated.

For future reference, it would be very helpful in searching if you could include the race designation (MN-06) at the beginning of the header in future diaries of this nature. Thank you.

Make a difference today. Who better than you?
