I'm surprised this hasn't been covered yet...or maybe Kos just needs to fix the search feature when he updates the site ;)
This is on the Yahoo! News page:
U.S. Representative Walter Jones (news, bio, voting record) (R-NC) is seen in his office on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. June 15, 2005. Jones will co-sponsor legislation about calling for the truth regarding the Downing Street Memo and reasons how the U.S. got involved in Iraq. Reuters/Mannie Garcia
Now, we know Jones is going to
introduce a plan tomorrow to call for withdrawl of U.S. troops in Iraq. This is the first I've read, however, of Jones co-sponoring legislation pertaining directly to the DSM.
Poor captioning? Sloppy journalism? Or will a Republican actually put his name on legislation calling for an investigation into pre-war actions by this admistration?
Let's remember what Jones said about the DSM:
"If we were given misinformation intentionally by people in this administration, to commit the authority to send boys, and in some instances girls, to go into Iraq, that is wrong," Jones said. "Congress must be told the truth."
And this
"When I voted two years ago to submit the troops, I was making my decisions on facts. Since that time, I've been very disappointed on what I've learned about the justification of going into Iraq. Afghanistan, absolutely, we should be there. We should have more troops, but we can't have more troops there when they're in Iraq."
And, finally, this:
"When I look at the number of men and women who have been killed -- it's almost 1,700 now , in addition to close to 12,000 have been severely wounded -- and I just feel that the reason of going in for weapons of mass destruction, the ability of the Iraqis to make a nuclear weapon, that's all been proven that it was never there," Jones said on ABC's "This Week."
A REPUBLICAN calling for an investigation into the administration's pre-war actions??? Could you have even imagined this a year ago?
Whatever the case may be, it sure adds to the suspense, doesn't it?
