Congratulations, Kos: Worst Person for America

You know you've done it.  It's your dirty little secret... and mine.  Against your better judgment.  Swallowing to keep back that little bit of vomit.  You've actually gone and clicked one of those "VOTE NOW!" pseudo-survey advertisements on the Drudge Report.  

Imagine my shock and utter... amusement... at discovering that our own Markos Moulitsas Zuniga is a candidate for "Worst Person for America"!  As bad as Michael Moore, Hillary Clinton and Paris Hilton!  Worse than Al Sharpton, John Kerry and the Dixie Chicks (none of whom made the list).

  They are trying to do a number on Markos. Trying to box him and market him.

  Back in the 80's I was a member of a casual group of friends and acquaintances who hung out togetehr, wrote for the same lefty rags, partied and drank too much. One of the things we liked to do was go out to marches against Free Trade and teh  Cruise Missile Tests, then have a (mostly liquid and hebal) picnic. We had no manifesto, having members who were Trots, Maoists, International Socialists, Knee-Dippers, Liberals Anarchists and even a token Red Tory. We just wanted to have a good time and maybe get a chance to make out with like minded girls or boys.

  We used to blacken our eyes (the original effort was to look "skull like", but someone  forgot to bring the white pancake) so we looked like raccoons. That's what we called ourselves "The Raccoon Collective".

  There were only fifteen or twenty of us, and we all knew each other, and we all knew that none of us were informants. There was nothing to inform on.
  We were just progressive kids who liked to march, drink, toke, and try for sex with each other.

  About ten years later I ran into someone who had been on the fringes of our social group. He'd been a CPC-ML member and a known stooge for the RCMP. Everyone knew it. He used to buy beer with the informant money.

  We'd never marched with him, since his politics and personality didn't mesh with any of ours.

  He let me know what a hard time he'd been given over us though.

  The cops had been all over him over who we were, what our goals were, and most importantly - who our leader was. They just couldn't get their heads around teh fact that we had no leader. This, my acquaintance told me, seemed to worry them the most.
  Without a leader they couldn't get a handle on us. They couldn't complete the reports.

  The Right wants Markos to be a leader because they want to put a safe convenient box around the netroots. They want to be able to categorize the movement so they can deal with it and destroy it or dismiss it.

  Joke's on them - ain't going to happen.

    I think you're onto something.  As traditionalists and conservatives, Republicans are desperately trying to find some semblance of a traditional power structure here, because then they would know how to fight us.

    It extends into the way they do every kind of business.  As has been seen in the so-called "War On Terror," Republicans typically look for traditional power structures and try to fight traditional fights using traditional methods.  This approach is particularly useless against a stateless foe, an untraditional foe, a new kind of foe.  Obviously, we need to bring new ideas to the situation; the traditional conservative approach isn't working.

    It also explains the importance of Osama The Bogeyman to their whole way of running things -- they really need that traditional power figure out there, because they don't understand any situation that doesn't have a traditional leader.  They try to force leaders onto the situation because it's the only way they can hope to grapple with it.

    So yes, this is what is going on with them and Markos.  They are bound and determined to make him our "leader" because they cannot hope to understand us any other way.  And of course they're still wide of the mark by anointing him "leader."  Obviously they're never going to get us and we should just enjoy the sport of mocking them for it.

      read John Dean's Conservatives Without Conscience. It explains just who and what the fringe right is all about. They need leaders because they can't think for themselves. He says that there are 23% of the public. And, interestingly, that 23% figure remains constant - it hasn't changed much throughout history.

      In good times, that 23% is kept in check. But in times like these, when good people have been asleep at the switch and allowed the train to go off the tracks, the 23% gets some power and things go awry.  Hopefulle, it's not too late and we can get it back and send them all to their rooms.

  Then it's Sheehan.  That woman is just capitalizing on the death of her son.  Typical.  These mothers are always doing this shit.  "Oh no, my son died....  Stop the war...?  I guess that leaves that sportscaster.  He was good when he said the scores, but now he thinks O'reilly isn't objective.  Right, whatever.  So, that means I've only got Hanoi Jane, and the guy who made the movie.  I guess I'll go with Howard Dean.  I know he did something bad.  AAAAAh , now I remember. He yelled that one time.  He's awful.  Definitely the worst of the bunch. I'll show him.  I'm gonna click that little box and then go get a cold one.
