From the Webb campaign...typical right-wing/Allen hypocrisy on sexual matters. This one's a doozy.
"Pro-Life" George Allen's Dance With Plan B "Morning After" Contraception Pill Manufacturer
Gucci Gulch, Washington, DC - George Felix Allen routinely tells Virginia audiences one reason they should vote for him is that they "know" him.
Really.
"Do Virginians know that while George Allen panders to the far right wing of his party as a staunch "pro-lifer" he accepts funds from, and makes money off a major pharmaceutical manufacturer, Barr Laboratories, whose main product is oral contraceptives, including the over-the-counter Plan B morning-after contraceptive?" Jim Webb campaign spokesperson, Steve Jarding asked.
The answer is: He does.
On George Allen's latest financial disclosure to the Federal Election Commission, the Allen campaign lists a $4,419.54 "travel expense" payment to Barr Laboratories. The payment is a travel reimbursement to Barr Laboratories because Allen apparently* used their private airplane for his political travels. Unfortunately for Allen, the FEC requires that candidates reimburse corporations for their use of private corporate jets or any other travel and mandates that those reimbursements are made public.
There's more.
George Allen, Mr. Family Values. Mr. Panderer to the Far Right - owns stock in, you guessed it, Barr Laboratories. In fact, last week, members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee threatened to block the nomination of the acting Food and Drug Administration Commissioner because of the stalled status of the Plan B's over the counter status, which prompted the FDA to finally move forward.
"Following news that the FDA was reconsidering its decision to hold up the over the counter Plan B, Barr shares climbed $2.42 a share or about five percent to $51.25 a share - that means that George Allen is a bit richer this week than he was last week - all because Mr. Pro-lifer, owns stock in a company that makes Plan B. I don't think Virginians knew that fact about you Senator," Jarding said.
"Senator, whose side are you on? This seems extremely hypocritical. You keep saying that Virginians should vote for you because they know you. The truth is, Virginians don't really know you and when they get to know how you have become more extreme since you arrived in the Senate and began selling out to special interests, we don't think they will like what they see," Jarding said.
* FEC reports do not quantify travel reimbursements, but the amount is so high that it suggests private jet travel.
Yet ANOTHER reason to boot George Allen and support Jim Webb. As if THAT wasn't enough, see this one - crazy!
