LAMONT WINS..............Now WHAT??? (Edited) w/ Poll

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 08:28:57 PM PDT

Lieberman conceded..Now what?

The FIRST thing that struck me was Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson standing behind Lamont.

Personally, nothing against Sharpton and Jackson and I am sure they worked hard for Lamont but NOW Lamont needs to appeal to the Moderates in Conneticut, to beat Lieberman AGAIN in November.

More Below

I think this win Justifies All of the hard work, but winning the primary DOES NOT make Lamont the Senator Elect..He needs to Beat Lieberman (AGAIN) in November to do that. He will need to EXPAND his voter base..

What do you think? Does Lamont need to hire someone to help him with his "image?"

Or, do you think that someone seen as extreme liberal can beat Liberman in November when Republicans can vote?

im glad lamont won, but i really have a feeling it was all in vain, he didnt win by enough, and liebermann will surely get votes from republicans.

      are whinier than Lieberman.

Busk the fuck up, and get off your ass and:

      1. Push Harry Reid to strip Lieberman of all committee assignments.
      1. Let people know what a sore loser Lieberman is.
      1. Get all Democrats -- including Bill Clinton -- to publicly back Ned Lamont.
      1. Get the Democratic interest groups who backed Lieberman to switch allegiances in the general.

While many of Lieberman's supporters will stay with him, I believe at least a substantial minority will bolt after Lieberman's loss. Ned Lamont is in the mainstream in Connecticut, unlike Joe Lieberman, and I think Democrats who had their doubts about Ned Lamont will support him at this point.

No one likes a loser...especially when he refuses to admit defeat.

    •  I agree. Lieberman is a loser (0+ / 0-)

Lieberman now is a loser. He has the public image of losing, plus he has literally lost support from all the big names that were bailing him out, like Bill and Hillary.

I don't see how that's going to increase his vote percentage. The Republicans, if they endorsed Joe, would make moderate dems LESS likely to vote for him. If the Republicans vote...well, Republican (as i think most of them will), they won't matter much.

The indies? A lot of indies switched party affiliation to vote in this primary. Aside from that, i doubt Lieberman is going to find much ground there, certainly not as much as he's going to lose by being...well, a loser.

...Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson stand behind Ned Lamont and help celebrate his victory, Lamont can't win in Connecticut?? Are you f--king kidding me?

Does Lamont need to hire someone to help him with his "image?"

No. That's the problem. Let the guy be real for once. Voters are sick of being manipulated.

    •  I agree with you, but... (0+ / 0-)

The sad thing is, image is all about "appearing real," and saying things like "the voters are tired of being manipulated.

You want to know "real" real? Paul Hackett. He said what he meant and meant what he said. And we agreed with 90% of it. Then, he told people in an interview he was against illegal immigration and some people at this site got very, very upset.

Now i like Hackett, but the people who disagree with Hackett aren't going to vote for him because he is "real." Nor did people feel attracted to Bush because "even though i disagree with him, he's a strong leader." Bush had a 50% approval rating at the time of the election and he got 51% of the vote.

Pretty cut and dry to me.

So, like i said, it's good to seem real, but it is hard to actually BE real and have people see it.

  •  Good Points ... (0+ / 0-)

I never liked his Television Ads -- they were not issue-oriented.  That's one thing that has to change.  He needs to make serious, hard-hitting, issue-oriented Ads.

It would be great if he could debate just the Republican Senate candidate one-on-one and leave Lieberman's fabricated "Connecticut For Myself" Party in the dust.

But the main message here is that Lamont's values, Progressive values are mainstream values!  The majority of the State and the majority of the Country agree with Lamont on issue after issue after issue right on down the line.

He has to make that argument!

And he has to show that Lieberman talks out of both sides of his mouth and is dishonest about his own claims and his so-called "values" result in failed policies and failed results.

People aren't angry because they don't want any debate in Congress. They're angry because of failed policies, dishonest policies, sell-out policies, and outright deceit and corruption.

The status-quo is not the answer and Lamont needs to show that the well-being of Independents depends upon moving in a new  direction!

  •  I'll tell you what.. (0+ / 0-)

Ned Lamont = instant Political Rock Star! :)

  •  Interesting Take... (0+ / 0-)

So, in your mind-- the first thing in your mind-- when you see Lamont celebrating his victory with two of the Black leaders that helped get him to the winner's circle is that he needs an image consultant?

Let me guess... you abhor racism; you've just never seen a Black leader that you felt was competent and well-mannered?

  •  Now, Lieberman wins (0+ / 0-)

    The question is, who loses.

The distraction and dirt-fight costs us much of whatever the netroots might have otherwise accomplished.

In WA, a worst-case renewed feud between energized antiwarriors and centrists costs us a Senate seat and 2-3 House seats/opportunities, depending on how various factions react.

In CT, I don't for a minute buy the argument that a down and dirty Lamont-Lieberman race helps our three prime House pickup opportunities.

Nationwide, $10-20M goes down this rathole ... that's twice what the DNC has in the bank.

      •  I'm just saying.. (0+ / 0-)

..that with everything, and I mean Everything going for Lieberman, including an 18 year incumbency, Lamont came out of nowhere and won. To suggest that an image makeover is necessary after that puzzles me. What I think should and hope does happen, is that the Democratic party will give Ned their full support, including access to all the advantages Joe enjoyed.
