Kerry has just endorsed Lamont

John Kerry's Washington office just told me on the phone [phone]) that Kerry has just endorsed Ned Lamont for the Senate. We can expect a press release soon. Kerry's home offices are not yet clued in on this yet.

Over the next few days, we can expect more of the Democratic establishment to fall in line behind the people's chosen candidate, Ned Lamont. Lieberman's money will dry up, he'll resort to Republican endorsements, and his sad career will wither up and blow away.

  Had the people of CT reelected Lowell Weicker in 1988, we would be in the second term of President Gore.  Weicker would probably have switched parties by now as well.

  I just spoke with Kennedy's office, and the person who answered said that endorsing Lamont was being intensively discussed and a decision would be made shortly, "within a day or so."

  voters in Connecticut have spoken and all Democratic leaders should rally round Ned Lamont, their chosen Democratic candidate for the Senate.  Period.  It's not about "friendship" - it's about democracy.  Pure and simple.  Joe Lieberman is not the Democratic candidate any longer.  He lost.  He should run as a Republican and be honest about his agenda as a Senator and lose fair and square like he just did in the primary.

  •  Actually...

    Kerry went on record a while ago - when other "establishment" Dems were coming out in support of Lieberman - that he would support whoever won the primary.

    Then stock footage of Kerry appeared in an ad for Lamont - remember "Lie and Die"? Kerry may or may not have approved the use of his image...he wouldn't of had to...but he didn't complain about it either, as far as I know.

    I guess they had had a few disagreements in the past they still worked out the difference for the benefit of the people.

    "Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) endorsed James Webb yesterday in Virginia's Democratic Senate contest, adding his name to the list of national party leaders who think Webb has the best chance of defeating Republican Sen. George Allen.

    It is unusual for senators to take sides in party primaries, but Kerry, the former presidential nominee, became the 10th current or former senator to support Webb, who faces Harris Miller in an increasingly testy primary June 13.

    "We need more people of courage in the Senate, and that means we need leaders like Jim who have served honorably in the military and in the government serving the country they love," Kerry said in a news release from the Webb campaign. "He has the best chance to beat George Allen," Kerry added.

    "I am honored and grateful for his endorsement today," Webb said in the release. "It is very meaningful for me to have so many military veterans stand with me during this process."

    Kerry announced the endorsement separately in an even stronger statement, mentioning that Webb's son will soon be deployed to Iraq.

    "I want to know that after November the father of Marine Lance Corporal Jimmy Webb will be in the Senate thinking and leading on the best course for American troops," Kerry said. "I dare any Republican to question this man's courage, character, or moral authority on questions of war and peace."

    The support of Democratic leaders is especially important for Webb, who served in the Reagan administration as secretary of the Navy, has been markedly critical of the past two Democratic presidents and is better known for his support of Republicans."
