MI GOV '06 - Granholm accused of "race baiting"

Here's the background on this:

The Michigan Democratic Party is running an Ad that notes how DeVos eliminated jobs in Michigan while investing heavily in China.  

Within hours DeVos was running a rebuttal commercial, and threatening TV stations to try and get them to take the MDP commercial off of the air.

Today my friends got recorded phone call accusing Granholm of race baiting.  More below.

Have you heard the Governors negative campaign against Dick Devos?  I'm an Asian American and I'm offended.  Why can't a politician run a campaign without race baiting?  How do I explain this to my children?  Asian Americans are attacked today to help Granholm's re-election, but who will it be tomorrow?  Please call Granholm's office and ask her to stop this race baiting.

My friends also got a lamer one regarding her environmental record (posted over at i wish this blog was louder)

You're all class Dick. Notice how the messages don't tell you who funded the call. The phone number associated with the phone calls goes to a voicemail message that tells you they have nothing to do with the content of the messages sent from the numbers they lease.

  about these, so that it goes on record, as soon as possible. And the Granholm campaign needs to lodge a complaint, if any laws were broken, as well.

  Intesrting that Nevada is making calls to Michigan with that type of stuff, ain't it? Might want to mention that in your letter to the editor, as well.

    I picked up the phone a moment ago to hear a child's piping voice say, "Governor Granholm has 'gone negative' against my Dad."

    Horrors! What a monstrous breach of etiquette and fair play.

    Has the campaign become so desperate for Republicans that they are resorting to indiscriminate dissemination of pre-recorded phone messages of this level of vacuity? Many citizens would rather hear about how they suggest dealing with the fallout from the elimination of Single Business Tax revenue.

  She didn't ban sand mining yet and so they accuse her of breaking environmental promises?  I think if you spoke with most industry reps they would tell you she is running a very strict environmental program.

  •  Dick Released Over 200,000 lbs of Pollutants

    I just looked at www.scorecard.org which allows you to search for how much pollution companies release based on their name, or their location, or the chemicals.  

    According to that site, Amway released over 200,000 lbs of pollutants in 1999 alone.  How does that stack up for an environmental record?

      In the Republicans private dictionary in their private universe, racebaiting is opposing jobs going to China and the word hypocrisy has been entirely removed.  (except when used in the context of Democrats, wherein it can be thrown about at will, and especially in the context of incidents with the exact opposite meaning.)

    •  Haven't been down that stretch of river in awhile

      but in years past, you canoe or boat down the Grand River in Ada past the Amway plant, and you discover the vilest smells and dirtiest water you can imagine.  I don't imagine that john engler made them clean it up much, but maybe Granholm has.  It was pure skunk all the way. There were a bunch of dead trees on the opposite bank, too, but that may not have been related.
