With the president's signature, the government will have allocated $350.6 billion for war-related spending since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the Congressional Research Service estimates. Since 2003, Congress has given the Defense Department $183 billion for Iraq, while appropriating an additional $25 billion to other government agencies operating in Iraq, such as the State Department, for a total of $208 billion, according to the CRS. During last year's presidential campaign, the Bush team excoriated Democratic challenger John F. Kerry for asserting that the war would cost $200 billion.
Ever notice how "fiscal conservatives" quickly drop their "balance the budget" mantra when war is involved? Not once does Hannity, Rush or Ingram ever mention the cost of war, or how it is hampering our national finances.
Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds
The Army Materiel Command, the Army's main logistical branch, has put Congress on notice that it will need at least two more emergency "supplemental" bills just to finance the repair and replacement of Army equipment. By 2010, war costs are likely to exceed half a trillion dollars, according to nonpartisan congressional researchers.
So, we're going to spend 500 billion on Iraq. Wouldn't it be nice if we had allies who could help us to defray those costs - to share the burden? Nah - we don't need no stinkin' friends. They're just a bunch of pussies - cowards, who are afraid to put their values on the line.
For fiscal 2005, the Pentagon has now been allocated about $100 billion for war costs, 45 percent more than last year. That total is nearly 30 percent of the $350 billion deficit the federal government is projected to run this year.
I have an idea. Let's give Paris Hilton a tax cut. God, does she need it. She works so hard at - well, whatever it is she does. And all those rich staunch Republicans who are gung-ho for the war - they need a tax break too. At the same time they are looking at keeping their kids out of the military (let them poor inner-city kids do the fighting), they won't even pay for the war. Ever notice how the right-wing pundits never ask their viewers to invest in the war effort?
Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
Members of Congress complain that the emergency process denies lawmakers' oversight powers and keeps Iraq costs off the deficit projections for future years. "It's dangerously irresponsible," Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) warned in February. Although support for the current package was overwhelming, lawmakers insisted it is the final straw.
Let's hide those costs, so no one will know the total cost of this war. Then, we don't have to include the cost projections in the budget! The Ken Lay school of financing. (I forgot, he and George weren't that close after all).
Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes
