It's simple: Anthrax threats= very limited criticism in the mass media.
I know that I sure-as-hell wouldn't criticize Bush in any major news outlet with something like the Downing Street Memo if I thought they'd target me with an anthrax envelope. It seems quite simple to me. Nobody wants to wind up like Daschle, Brokaw, and those other poor folks who were hit by the brunt of BushCo's creulty. The Anthrax threat is still alive and well.
Why is it that nobody seems to remember the Anthrax episode? I'm positive it didn't dissapear. Right now, the threat is still at its strongest. Whomever sent out those envelopes had the intention of shutting people up. Well, it worked. Nobody accused journalists of being the toughest bunch on the block. Yes, it's true that some can be quite bold and daring, but none would choose to suffer the miserable fate of an Anthrax death. Anthrax has successfully contributed to the pussification of the media and Bush's being handled with kid gloves. I don't think I need to say much more. I think all of us here are smart enough to put the pieces together if they haven't already.
