Why We May Be In Iraq Forever

Sun Sep 24, 2006 at 08:19:07 AM PDT

The big question has been why did George Bush invade Iraq? The answer can be found in Bush's refusal to even consider withdrawal, and his commitment to leave troops in Iraq as long as he is president. The Bush administration, led by the neocon philosophy, is terrified of a unified middle east. Imagine a unified middle east with Iran at the head as a nuclear power. Imagine a nuclear power that also controls the world oil supply in a world addicted to oil.
The rise of the soviet empire pales in comparison. The Russians were held in check by the knowledge that any use of nuclear weapons would result in their destruction as well as ours. It was a no win situation. Iran on the other hand would not need the threat of an offensive nuclear strike, the major weapon in their arsenal is oil. They would have the ability to strangle the west with huge increases in oil prices and have a nuclear defensive capability to guard against aggression. China would be held in check as long as their price for oil was maintained at a reasonable rate. Russia is happy to sit on the side lines and watch because as of late August Russia overtook Saudi Arabia as the top oil producer in the world.
Why then isn't Bush pushing for alternative energy? That is because he has never considered losing in Iraq. That is why there was never a discussion of exit strategy, they never intend to leave. They will allow a puppet government to operate and maintain a huge American military presence to assure stability as well as to remind the neighbors to behave.
It looks as though the president is waiting for the results of the November elections. If the republicans retain control of both houses of congress I think we can look forward to a sharp escalation in the war. This is the unfortunate result of an administration that has no use for diplomacy. Like a petulant child the Bush administration only knows how to demand what it wants and stubbornly refuses to say please. It remains to be seen if they, and us because of them, will be spanked.

  •  This is why Bush attacked Iraq! (0+ / 0-)

It had nothing to do with fighting terrorism and still does not! As you may remember, Bush was looking for something to happen that would put the country and the world behind what he already had plans to do. 9/11 gave him that something.
He had plans right from the beginning to establish a new societal, middle east, and world order. That is why it was important to him to whip up a media and public fury which of course, he has done.
He then used the excuse of 9/11 to attack Iraq and unsettle the middle east so he could further his idea of a new middle east and world order. Of course lying all the while and whipping up as much support and frenzy as he could in the media and minds he controlled.
At this point it behooves him to continue to ignore reality and continue to whip up a frenzy so he can continue staying the course in order to further prosecute his new middle east and world order.
We are all shamelessly being used so Bush can follow his plan for new order. http://www.anaveragepatriot.com/... I wrote this 3 years ago but it is more obvious today. Let me know what you think? I won't get any deeper but it gets worse from here.
Iraq is lost but he must deny reality so he can prosecute his plan for new middle east and world order. man, I am still looking at your thought about oil and us staying in Iraq forever. I will just shut up because there is a lot to be said about that! Good post! Bush is an ass hole!

    Forever is not an option.

Why We May Be In Iraq Forever

    Wait and see...

  •  Funny how things work out (0+ / 0-)

By invading Iraq, Bush has facilitated exactly what this diary says he wanted to prevent. I'm sure that BushCo and the Rovian philosophy will lead them to invade Iran simply because he has to cover his ass for the collosal fuck-up that is the Iraqi War.
Why these mental midgets didn't see this inevitability is beyond me.
Oh wait, it isn't. Money, greed, arrogance, imperialist notions, the list goes on and on.
What really does befuddle me is how anyone could actually think that Republicans are "better" on National Security issues. I mean, the NIE report that the NYT published a story on in today's paper should have been a no-brainer.
