I finally see a light at the end of the religious-right tunnel! Could it be possible? Is the end truly near for evangelical domination of the world? Based on
THIS ARTICLE, it just might be.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - New anti-Christian jeans have become hot sellers in Sweden.
They're known as Cheap Monday and have a trendy tight fit and low price. They also have a logo that features a skull with a cross turned upside down on its forehead.
The logo's designer admits he has a "great dislike" for organized religion and says the logo is an "active statement against Christianity."
Now, admittedly, I may be reaching just a bit. But think about this.
Almost all of the fashion trends in the US started out in Europe. We are usually 1-2 years BEHIND those cutting-edge European trendsetters. Therefore, it stands to reason that we will be seeing these anti-christian jeans here in America around 2007.
Of course, my argument also assumes that those wearing the jeans AGREE with their intended statement...That the current crop of teens are rejecting the christian movement.
Will that be true here? I don't know. But we are already seeing some evidence of backlash against the religious taliban, so my guess is that our teens will follow suit.
The $64 question though, is "will the american evangelical christians respond the same way swedish lutherans have?". Hmmm...I somehow I doubt that:
The predominant Lutheran Church of Sweden is reacting with a shrug. A spokesman says he doesn't think the logo is "much to be horrified about."
Personally, I can't wait to see how Focus on the Family deals with this one. Just imagine the sight of James Dobson's head spinning on his shoulders, just before it explodes! And can we assume that Pat Robertson will call for the designer's assassination?
Well, we can hope, anyway. Here's to those trend-setting Swedes, and the Swedish Lutherans who actually have a clue!
