I am going to try this again. I had a
whole diary done this morning, and pushed hte wrong button.... and it was gone!!
Yesterday I was watching Abrams on MSNBC and there was a segment about those pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control pills. Abrams had a pharmacist on the program that refuses to fill such prescriptions.
I wanted to go through the tv and strangle the guy. He kept saying how it wasn't for religious reasons he was refusing to fill these prescriptions. He said birth control pills are very dangerous for women! So dangerous that they kill thousands of women each year! Abrams was laughing at the guy!
Then abrams asked the guy if he filled prescriptions for Viagra. Of course he does! Viagra helps the love between a man and a woman! Then he said something telling... he said birth control pills are a
barrier to the love of a man and woman. That was the word he used I am pretty sure. The transcript was not available when I checked.
I am torn on the issue of these pharmacists and their so-called consientious (sp) objection. Some are refusing to fill prescriptions for unmarried women. Do they ask the men if they are married when they fill viagra prescriptions? Some are hijacking the prescriptions and not only refusing to fill them, they are refusing to give the prescription back so the women can take it elsewhere.
I know there have been other diaries on this subject. I think it bears repeated scrutiny. Where does it stop? Can pharmacists refuse to fill prescriptions for AIDS patients because they don't believe in gay people? How about if they refuse to give any scripts to gays or unmarried women? The implications as far as I can see are very broad reaching.
Some states are attempting to do something about this. Nevada and Illinois are trying to make it harder for pharmacists to descriminate against women.
Also, when these pharmacists refuse to fill the prescriptions, they lecture the women too. The pharmacist on Abrams called it consultation, but I doubt that! It's sickening to me what people can do to women! As if we are little children that need to be disciplined by our parents!
Now, if you would like to see what these pharmacists are about, you can visit their site. And if you want to do something about this, here is a good site.
I still don't know what I think about this. It seems women have become fair game for anyone who wants to parent us. This wouldn't be acceptable if they decided they didn't want to fill prescriptions for blacks becasue they are KKK members.
