Wes Clark Bashes the GOPs "Path to 11/7" with Truth

Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 09:24:41 AM PDT

The Walt Disney film, "The Path to 9/11" to be aired on ABC will be principle strategic offensive for the GOPs "Path to 11/7".  But yesterday, Wesley Clark confronted the charge and initiated a counter-offensive with the truth.

The Walt Disney Company disgraceful attempt to politicise the tragic day of 9/11 with its "documentary" or "mockumentary" is   wholely un-American!  Should this air, ABC will be complicit with Disney's fantasies of deceit for the Bush Administration.   In its alliance with FOX, Walt Disney and ABC, the Bush administration and his Neo-Cons are engaged in a desperate, yet coordinated offensive to save face for the GOP in 11/7 -- the November 2006 midterm elections.

But yesterday, their "grand" strategy was made even clearer when on Fox News, Neil Cavuto plugged Rove's arsenal of talking points to blame the "path to terrorism" on the Clinton administration.

But in an interview on Fox News, Wes Clark masterfully countered Rove's "Path to 11/6" from the initial assault by Neil Cavuto.  Even as Cavuto tried TWICE to assault Clark with the Rove's talking points Wes Clark debunked every charge with truth concerning the incidents around 1993 WTC attack and the 2000 USS Cole attack.

In truth, the "Path to 9/11" was paved by this Administration, under its watch!!

=====

Excerpts::
.

Neil Cavuto:  So, so General, who incentivized the USS Cole attack? Who incentivized the '93 attack on the World Trade Center?

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well, you're- now you've just changed the question.  ...We did not have to attack Iraq. What we could have done is focused on Afghanistan and finished the job in Afghanistan, but Neil, we didn't do that. You realize when we went into Afghanistan, we left Afghanistan again after only a couple of months. We left 8,000 combat troops there. They- we did none of the reconstruction. We didn't help the Afghan people recreate their economy. It had been devastated -- by the Soviets. So, we left a problem.

The Path to 9/11 :: A Dereliction of Duty by the POTUS

Neil Cavuto: again plugs GOP points::  "....We didn't respond to the USS Cole in any measurable way. We didn't respond to the '93 attacks on the World Trade Center in any way. So, is it just because this President's a Republican that you're bashing him and the prior one was not that you're not.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: No. It has nothing to do with that. In fact, you know, the people who attacked us at the World Trade Center, we arrested them. We broke up that ring. As far as the Cole attacks were concerned, a complete plan was worked up. By the time they had worked the plan up, it was December of 2000. The administration was about to go out of office. A Republican was going to come in. I think Richard Clarke has told the full story of passing on a 20pg Plan along with all the details to the National Security Advisor Condeleeza Rice. They never got a hearing.

This President went on vacation in August of 2001, despite the warnings that Al Qaeda was trying to attack the United States-without ever summoning his cabinet officers together.

That's dereliction!

: War on Terrorism ::  Clinton (Dems) vs Bush (Neocons):

Neil Cavuto: "... There were plenty of warnings in plenty of prior attacks and enough blame to go around in plenty of prior administrations, both Democrat and Republican, but what bothers ...//... is that nothing is acknowledged about how 5 years after we were attacked in this country, we have not been attacked again in this country. Would it have killed any of you at this presser today to have at least acknowledged that?"

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK:

[The DEMS and CLINTON]

  • (i) "Well, Senator Harry Reid did acknowledge the fact that we haven't been attacked. ...
(ii) In 1999, (but) we got word and intercepted a terrorist group that was trying to attack Los Angeles Airport for New Years of 2000.
(iii) We broke that attack up.
(iv)  We had an effective White House Counter-terrorism Strategy that was coordinating the agencies. ..."
  • [The NEOCONs and BUSH]

  • (i) That strategy fell apart in the early months of the Bush administration. You can talk to the people. It's a matter of record.
(ii) This administration wanted to focus on WMDs coming from North Korea.
(iii) They wanted to focus on an ABM.
(iv) They did not focus on the problem of terrorism,... until it was too late.
    (v)  And then they took us to a war we didn't have to fight in Iraq that has made the problem more difficult to come to terms with...."

  • ======

The tragic day of 9/11 was not a failure of "intelligence"; rather, it was a failure of leadership by this President.  9/11 happened on the President's watch!!

As Clark charged, President Bush was derelict of duty to protect Americans!!  The events "leading to" the "Path to 9/11" is more about the events "consequent to"  Bush's 2001 Inauguration as POTUS.

Sadly, ABCs' (for The Walt Disney Co.) airing of "Path to 9/11" is part of this Presidents' grand deception of facts and truths to once again misinform and mislead the American public, which will once again make our country less safer and compromise our efforts to fight the real war on "terrorism."

[Update] Upon advise below, my post here is an extension of souldrifts terrific blog, Wes Clark comes out with Guns Blazing. But in my view, it presents a distinct perspective towards the intent behind the GOPs attempt to air "The Path to 9/11"; which is why I chose to posted this at length, as a seperate blog.

The more I see and hear, the more I know this man has to be in the White House.

And talk about a powerful candidate who can show America that Democrats can protect the nation and use the military wisely.

We gotta get Clarke out of the Fux right wing echo chamber and get him in front of an audience that has ears to hear.

      •  I think it's a 2008 strategy (6+ / 0-)

It could be that he's just being visible to Republicans.  He's getting a chance to display his knowledge and credentials to those who would not normally vote Democratic.  Come 2008, he won't be an unknown.  It will be harder for the Republicans to turn him into a cartoon as they did with Kerry and Gore, because he'll already be a known quantity to Fox viewers.

They may not agree with him, but it will be hard for Rove and Co. to convince them that he's a left wing crackpot.

          Al Gore v. the Media

          By Robert Parry

To read the major newspapers and to watch the TV pundit shows, one can't avoid the impression that many in the national press corps have decided that Vice President Al Gore is unfit to be elected the next president of the United States.

Across the board -- from The Washington Post to The Washington Times, from The New York Times to the New York Post, from NBC's cable networks to the traveling campaign press corps -- journalists don't even bother to disguise their contempt for Gore anymore.

At one early Democratic debate, a gathering of about 300 reporters in a nearby press room hissed and hooted at Gore's answers. Meanwhile, every perceived Gore misstep, including his choice of clothing, is treated as a new excuse to put him on a psychiatrist's couch and find him wanting.

Journalists freely call him "delusional," "a liar" and "Zelig." Yet, to back up these sweeping denunciations, the media has relied on a series of distorted quotes and tendentious interpretations of his words, at times following scripts written by the national Republican leadership.

And get Paul Hackett in there too!

These are guys who know how to talk to a Fox audience. Fox is on everywhere, and not everyone who watches it is a Republican. The more people we have on there deconstructing their crap in real time, the better. Especially when it's a chickenhawk debating a war, and in Clark's case, human rights as well, hero.

I'm pretty outspoken about how I'd like all Democrats to refuse to appear on fox. I'd really like to marginalize them to just be the republikan network that they are and only speak to republikans.  However, if you're going to put a Democrat on foxspews (and that appears to be what they are planning on doing), you need to put guys like Clark and Hackett and Charlie Rangell on.  They are the only ones to talk tough enough and knowledgeably enough about military matters to give the foxspews hawks a run for their money.  Clark was great! No one can question his military credentials (or Hackett's or Rangell's either) and he is tougher than any fox host.  I like that.

I enjoyed reading again about the general's slap down of hapless Cavuto, but this diary seems like a retread of another that's currently on the recommended list.

        [Special note]

However, I want to clarify the intent for my seperate post here.  Although this could be argued as an extension of souldrifts terrific blog, "Wes Clark comes out with Guns Blazing", in my view I've offered another perspective.

The GOPs attempt to air "The Path to 9/11" on ABC is integral to their propoganda campaign, which Clark clearly recognized.  This has not been discussed with due emphasis, imo, which is why I chose to post this at length, as a seperate blog.

But you're right, I do not want to take away from souldrifts post. :)

        •  OK, but enhance your emphasis (0+ / 0-)

You have now confirmed the suspicion I had when I fired off my quick reply, that suspicion being your diary was aimed at highlighting Clark's effort to counter right-wing election propaganda with facts and experience. KR I'm OK with that perspective, but help us out by enhancing your argument. Can you show us how the GOP influenced ABC (or Disney) to produce "The Path to 9/11"? Sure, makes sense as a campaign strategy ("11/6"), but you gotta smoking gun for us?

          •  I'm just banking on Clark's genius,... ;) (0+ / 0-)

who recognised Rove's multi-pronged strategy to divert discourse and focus consequent of Bush's inauguration in 2001 to the events prior to it.

This "strategy" was evident through President Bush's series of speeches this week.  It's of no coincidence that it starts prior to the anniversary of 9/11.  GOPs strategy for 11/6 is all about distorting the facts about how 9/11 really happened under Bush's watch.    Add this with FOX News GOP punditry and release of this film this weekend (produced by a conservative GOP'er), then it's clearer what the Bush/Rove Media Machine is really up to.

I'm glad that Clark attacked it head on with the facts.

[BTW:: Sorry for the delayed response, Hogarth.  I'm actually VERY busy with activities this week, but just had to post my thoughts as a blog, given my limited time]
