LA Times reports ABC going ahead with 9/11 Drama

Sat Sep 09, 2006 at 12:45:02 AM PDT

Trying to organize a boycott and opposition on Wednesday to Friday for a show that starts Sunday was asking a bit too much.

http://www.calendarlive.com/...

Suggest we discuss ways of contacting local stations and other media to publicize factual errors in the show, the conservative activism of the writers and the FBI consultant who dropped out.

Probably at least a letter to the editor campaign and see if we can get some Democratic office holders to ask for time on a news feature.

    •  Thanks for the email addy. Here's my ... (0+ / 0-)

      letter of outrage:

Never would I have believed that Disney and ABC would stoop to the level it has by broadcasting the maliciously false, flagrantly defamatory, and blatantly slanderous program falsely titled "Path to 9/11."  You, as CEO of this conglomerate, are ultimately responsible for this fiasco.

It is contrary to American values to distort history, sir.  It is counter to American ethics to engage in unsubstantiated, libelous propaganda.  That was a tactic of the former Soviet Union in the Joseph Stalin era or the diabolical disinformation campaigns of Nazi propagandist Josef Goebbels.  It does not belong in America.

What Disney/ABC is doing is despicable, deserving of the most severe condemnation.  You have stooped to depths lower than even Fox News could have conjured up.  You deserve this nation's vilification.  I certainly revile your decision to run this fabricated account.  How can you be so unfeeling, so cruel, so inhuman?  The people slaughtered in the 9/11 attacks don't deserve to have their memory tainted by such a vile depiction wrongly claiming to chronicle the events leading to that dastardly day.

You have it in your power to stop this travesty.  The American thing to do would be to withdraw it before you, personally, are held to account for this scurrilous depiction.

            •  no way.....not at all (0+ / 0-)

you can update it nicely....there's only a gazillion diaries a day to add to your contact listings....

it's an action diary on a live time-sensitive issue.....simply add any new contacts and post it....

or don't add any new contacts...and post it again....

no way would anyone have an issue with that....it's one of the few accepted exceptions to that rule done every time there is a major action going on.

post it daily..... add more contacts especially though if you can garner them from the diaries posted.

Just saw Kristen Breitweiser on a rebroadcast of last nite's Larry King, and now I get it!!!

As the Evildoers behind this crapalooza surveyed the field for potential opposition, they knew how to attack and discredit the usual suspects.  They saw one group, however, that possessed what they considered a deadly combination of intense factual knowledge of the issues and a moral high ground based not only on their status, but on their commitment and integrity as well--the "Jersey Girls".

They, as much as anyone, after, had spearheaded the successful effort to create the 9/11 Commission and, even worse for Scaife and his poo-throwing minions, liked to depend on despicable things like facts and truth.

Yes, they must clearly be undermined, but how?  For a man to attack them would be unseemly at best....Hey, how about Coultergeist???  She's a bestseller, gets her Adam's apple all over tv, and would probably even enjoy it.  Talk about your media whores!!!!

Well, she did it, the world was stunned, not understanding at the time her secret motivation, but it really didn't work that well.  Anyone w/a mind or a conscience was repulsed, and there was Kristen last nite, determined as ever, sincere, bright, and credible as ever, and we will win over these Evil Troglodytes!!!!

                      U go, Kristen!!!!!

      •  Thanks for that. (0+ / 0-)

  •  Two things here... (5+ / 0-)

First, if they're going forward and they haven't removed the slander or properly disclaimed it as pure fiction, Albright et al. should bring out the lawyers posthaste. Second, there goes Thomas Kean still defending this tripe again. We trusted him as 9/11 Commissioner and he appeared bipartisan. But now, in a craven attempt to get Junior elected in NJ, the luster comes off his service to the country. He stands as one more partisan Bushie hack with no intellectual honesty intact. It kind of gives me the same sick feeling I had about the one part of our government I always trusted, the Supreme Court, when they threw off all honor, turned their back on their country and like a group of partisan kingmakers elected a President whom the people voted against. Oh and get a load of this from the buffoon Kean, when commenting on the uproar over PT9/11, "frankly, its the blogosphere." I hope the "blogosphere" has a big hand in getting Junior defeated two months hence.

On my emails and PT911 blog posting to ABC I said that ABC should have their lawyers ready cause a number of people they defame will likely sue.

I never trusted Kean or even the 9/11 Commission Democrats.  They were chosen by the Bush White House to whitewash their incompetence.  As it was, the GOP members issued a separate report smearing Wilson and other items the conservative Democratics couldn't agree with.

Suggest we discuss ways of contacting local stations and other media to publicize factual errors in the show, the conservative activism of the writers and the FBI consultant who dropped out.

I was just thinking of diarying this.  I think I still will.  It'll be a "Plan B/Here's what we do now" type of diary...just in case.  I think it's important that we prepare for everything.

Because of the coverage Daily Kos gets, I suggest we do a collaborative diary about the documentary docudrama propaganda.  We could fact check it, with each person taking on a 15, 20, or 30 minute section of the propaganda.  Then, someone with editing skills can put it all together.  After both episodes/parts have aired, we SEND - IT - EVERYWHERE!  The diary can be prefaced by mentioning what eleming wrote; that even conservatives wanted the film pulled because of its falsehoods and two FBI agents didn't want anything to do with it once they realized it was full of lies. Then we send it to all the Democratic organizations, every newspaper, TV station, or whatever. One (if not some) will pick it up and run with it...hopefully.

Then, the boycott.  deaniac83 has an excellent list of advertisers.  Add to that alternative products/services, and we're good to go.  I think it's very important to give people alternatives.  If someone has eaten Subway for years and years, but it's on the list to boycott, it'll be very helpful to list some other chains that offer similar products/services.

But as everyone has said, keep calling and emailing until Monday night.  Fill up everyone's voice mail we have a number for.  Email them until their servers beg for mercy.  We won't stop.  We can't stop.

And that's all I have to say about that.

    Follow my logic ...

The people who already believe, regardless of evidence, aren't going to have their minds changed.

Because of the furor, already in evidence, regarding this show, if it actually gets broadcast, we know that the furor will immediately increase exponentially.

    What will be the effect?

The people who haven't really paid that much attention, for whatever reasons, will now be innundated with media coverage with the details of the discrepancies receiving more & more attention. The disgusting nature of the slanders will become more & more evident. This will result in a backlash among these voters, & other non-voters, who don't generally pay that much attention.

To summarize: The intensity of the response if this film is broadcast will serve to highlight the initial & ongoing deceptions & general sleaziness of this administration with a clarity & level of detail which, as we all know, has been missing (for the most part) from the MSM coverage ever since 9/11.

Now ... some people say, "What is this Turtle smoking?"

In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I am powered by Gunpowder Hash from Stix. (I further confess that I have fantasies about being molested by Rick Santorum! Maybe even having a threesome with him & John Cornyn!)

Nevertheless, I keep thinking over & over that this is the fatal mistake, the fatal misunderestimating, from which there will be no recovery!

    That's my prediction, fwiw!

I believe in the Voltaire approach to free speech. May not agree with what you say but will defend your right to the death to say it. Voltaire should have added that  you can reserve the right to tell the speaker that they  are full of shit up to their eyeballs.

I remember watching the Hitler propaganda films in college with a critical eye going in. Many non-partisans will be watching it, prepared to deconstruct the right wing version of history as they never have before.

Of course that could be the hash. There are probably many non-partisan dumbasses who will watch it and be ready to lynch Clinton, Berger and Albright.

It's the non-partisans who will be instrumental in accomplishing this swing.

is completely discrediting it in the minds of the public. With enough news stories about the controversy, many will watch this conservative wet dream of what transpired from 1993-2001 with a critical eye. I'm hoping that many non-partisans will watch it with the conservative narrative already deconstructed.

Personally, I would like to see ABC feel comfortable airing it along with feeling comfortable in airing Moore's F911. Just tell people that it is a biased version of events and forget telling people that is based on the 9-11 report and getting Scholastic Inc. to cooperate with it. The dishonesty of the marketing is criminal.

If they edit out just the two or three worst offenses to the truth (which seems likely now),

    1. It will create conceptual gaps in a plot line that is already pretty scattered.
    1. Take away 30 million dollars worth of propaganda. The financers aren't going to feel they got much of a bang for their buck.

Kean, in an interview Friday, continued to defend the movie as a "first-class project," adding that although the filmmakers took the recent criticisms seriously and made adjustments when warranted, much of the hostile reaction was political grandstanding from partisans who had seen little if any of the film. "That's the blogosphere, frankly," Kean said of the controversy.
