Tonight the Gators are Cinderella. Well not exactly, but surely the heavy underdog.
Now, at first glance, it would seem that any good Democrat should be rooting for the Buckeyes. Ohio turned true blue. Florida stayed stubbornly red. If anything, it turned a little more red.
But I am here to explain why any self respecting Democrat should be yelling loudly for a Gator win. More.
Tim Tebow. Florida's freshman phenom QB. Born again Christian and home schooled. Perfect fit for full throated cheering by Democrats? Say what? you are not doubt asking? But it is obvious if you think about it.
To prove Barack Obama wrong:
Democrats, for the most part, have taken the bait. At best, we may try to avoid the conversation about religious values altogether, fearful of offending anyone and claiming that - regardless of our personal beliefs - constitutional principles tie our hands. At worst, some liberals dismiss religion in the public square as inherently irrational or intolerant, insisting on a caricature of religious Americans that paints them as fanatical, or thinking that the very word "Christian" describes one's political opponents, not people of faith.
Well, I for one embrace Tim Tebow. Show Obama that Democrats DO welcome people of faith to the Big Tent. Root for Florida.
Reason 2. Be an Urban voter. Yep. That's right. Democrats have always dominated in Urban areas. Florida's coach is as Urban as you can get. No brainer.
Finally, root for the Gators for the Common Good. If the Gators win, I'll be sweetness and light. You won't find a more pleasant Kossack. If they lose, well, misery loves company.
So, everybody up --- LET"S GO GATORS!!!!!!!
