But still Disney doesn't care. I called them today, you see. They called me back to say "We're not commenting". It's funny. Click for audio.
Disney refuses to comment about their radio property using the broadcast spectrum to advocate attacks on mosques full of worshippers. Disney has nothing to say about their employees encouraging radio listeners to visit violence upon the Speaker of the House. Mums the word when it comes to commenting on a radio host asking his caller to say "Allah's a wh*re" in order to prove he's American enough.
Ugh. This sure isn't the Disney I grew up with...
2nd Update [2007-1-8 19:25:6 by Mike Stark]: Well, the problem below seems to be a non-issue. I just googles "Julia Hoover ABC" and it turns out she's a VP that works out of New York. New York's laws are similar to Virginia's in that only one side of the coversation needs to consent to its recording.
Update [2007-1-8 16:9:28 by Mike Stark]: Several genuinely concerned friends have emailed me to suggest that, with this call, I might be in a bit of a legal spot. Evidently, California has some pretty drastic laws regarding the recording of telephone conversations. I know that in VA, where I used my Vonage device to contact Disney, the rule regarding recording is that consent of one party is required. I constituted that party, so I am good from the standpoint of VA law.
With that established, the real issue is whether or not Disney can prosecute me from wherever it is their rep called me from. If the laws there are diff't from the laws here, I may be on the hook for some kind of liability.
I'm not an expert in this kind of law. There are a lot of issues that could be explored. For instance, are internet communications covered by the law? My communication was routed through Vonage... Ugh.
The point is... Right now the call is available. You should all remember to respect the law - I don't encourage civil disobedience except in matters of extreme importance. For that reason, the clip may not be downloadable and/or saved to your computer for very much longer. If Disney comes after me, I'll probably immediately pull the clip and then speak with EFF or somebody from my law school.
