I have noticed that people will take a lot of criticisms sitting down up to the point you imply or outright say they are "bad people" for whatever the criticism entails. So let me not be subtle. I don't want to imply something unintentionally, so I'll be fully intentional about it.
Followers are bad people.
I have criticized hierarchy and the idea of leadership, I've mentioned that good leaders are basically those that break the trends of leadership, that "good leaders" have to be in the minority among all leaders. It's the nature of leadership... except the truth is I get along great with most leadership types. It's not really leaders that cause this problem with "leadership" as we understand it.
The problem is with followers. Followers are the ones screwing up organizations. Followers are the ones that spoil every system ensuring that no system ever will be a true meritocracy while they are around. If you wonder why, as you ought, the reason is because followers glom onto what they perceive as success... they reinforce that success without thinking, without regard to merit.
GOOD LEADERS don't accept such thoughtless adulation, but bad leaders do. This ensure bad leaders rise to the top more quickly than good leaders, and while the fealty they command is, per capita, less than those of a good leader, they make up for that in numbers AND in the fact that followers can be commanded, whereas "thinking followers" (ignoring the oxymoronic aspect of that term) will listen to the leader and then decide for themselves. The good leader is an idea man, an organizer, someone with initiative, and not really a leader, lacking actual followers.
You could call these things "leadership" but why? You only apply a frame where one man decides and leads, and the others follow, as if every problem we face requires a war or an exodus... where "leadership" and "following" may really be necessary.
I do not need leadership, and I'm tired of mindless followers foisting their bad choices on me. We are human. Our special gift as animals is our brain, it is the ability to think and adapt to reality. It's time we live up to those abilities.
Think for yourself.
