There's been talk tonight about this being President Bush's last chance at victory in Iraq.
The question is, why give this man one last opportunity to redeem whatever little integrity he had in the first place?
Another question needs to be addressed is: Why give a man who lied about the reasons behind going into war, (which has cost American and Iraqi lives and has plunged us into debt) another chance?
In my little world, he's done.
Tonight we didn't hear the fancy slogan of "stay the course," but Bush's plan to send an additional 21,000 more troops into Iraq sounds like "Stay the course," part II.
Tonight we heard for the first time that mistakes were indeed made. Yet President Bush wants the American people to trust him.
Trust him?
Let's look at the reasons given to us why we went to war:
To spread freedom
To spread democracy
To liberate Iraq from a brutal dictator
9/11
The central part to the war on terror
Someone tried to kill Bush's father
Oil
WMD's the didn't exist
And now after all that President Bush still wants us to trust him?
His speech was more about trying to win the hearts and minds of an American public who aren't buying the new strategy.
The people spoke on November 7, 2006. They disapprove of the war in Iraq.
Yet instead of actually listening to the American people who's taxes pay his salary, he decides to continue on with a plan that is headed for disaster.
Even he knows it.
His admission that this could be the bloodiest year in Iraq sent chills down my spine.
But he wants another chance.
It's all about him and his fragile ego.
It's not about victory, nor bringing home the troops.
It's about securing his place in the annals of American history. History that has already condemned him to the number one position as the worst President in American history.
It's about rallying the troops in his base that stood blindly beside him while Iraq burned and our young men and women were being killed on a daily basis.
It's about spreading the ideals of the Neo-Conservative ideology of the "Project for the New American Century." Ideals that have been proven wrong on a consistent basis.
It's about establishing American bases in a region that doesn't want us.
Repeat.
Doesn't want us.
During the Gulf War, a prominent member of President George H.W. Bush's cabinet said that invading Iraq would get the United States "bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq."
That individual I'm referring to was then Secretary of Defense, Dick Cheney.
Yet he sees the Iraq conflict today as a success.
Iraq is no success.
It's beyond a quagmire.
But the 43rd President of these United States doesn't see that.
Even though he finally acknowledged that we aren't winning, he still has the gall to call for more troops to be sent.
More troops that are likely to be killed.
To the Democratic party:
We voted for your party because of your commitment to end this war as soon as possible.
We don't want any symbolic votes or some excuses that the President can do whatever he wants and whenever he wants.
You have the constitutional power to end this war.
Use it.
Mr. Bush is not the C.E.O. of the United States of America. He can't just send troops without debate. This plan should not only be discussed, but should be overwhelmingly denounced by both sides. Including a Republican party that for many years have stood by and watched this President continue to treat this country as his own little Enron.
Mr. Bush, it's all over.
We've heard your message tonight. We know you finally admit mistakes (even though you don't sound sincere) But during your 7 years as President you've proven to be more of a pathological liar rather than a commander-in-chief. And now you want us to trust you with a plan that is a failure and give you another chance?
Sorry sir we just can't do that.
