As I watched the interview with President George W. Bush on "60 Minutes" and the subsequent one on the PBS News hour with Jim Lehrer I was shocked at "the Presidents new manner."
Gone is the ramrod straight posture, the crisp well crafted Rovian sound bites of old (not that he didn't mangle a few) They are replaced now with and open shirt "regular guy," so slouched in a chair it looks like he is going to slide out at any time. staring at the ceiling and talking about death and destruction like he was discussing his favorite pie recipe ...
At any point I expected him to say: "Dude, look at the patterns in the ceiling."
This Gives A whole new meaning to the term: WAR ON DRUGS.
I have always suspected that our "dry drunk" President was tuned up on Pharmaceuticals. Not because of his close relationship to the Pharmaceutical Industry but because Karl and Dick found him his own personal "Elvis Doctor."
In the past my suspicion was fueled by his constant "jar grinding" and "mangled syntax" ... and from the fact that it is humanly impossible to fuck up for this long, in public, and not go crazy without the help of drugs.
But someone has "changed his Meds" lately. Now he is "flying high" ... Smiling and smirking while going on about dead soldiers, making mistakes, losing, being disappointed ... yet all the while looking at the ceiling and "feeling NO pain."
So the question becomes .... "What's he high on now?"
