When you're reading the news;
the scratch,
of the cat in the box.
She digs
against sensibilities.
She likes the stink.
Oh Molly! We see another great progressive pass. Honestly, I don't know if she'd approve of this place... but that is another issue, for another day.
It has been rare in the recent trends in journalism to have someone so adroit, so polite, and so scathingly honest. Molly Ivins is not just a journalist, but a person to whom we should aspire.
I'm sure there are many and more poignant eulogies that have appeared here tonight, but I must say that Molly, in chorus with many comrades - Jim Hightower, Cornell West, Barbara Ehrenreich, Frances Fox Piven - changed me from an academic leftist, to one who tries to work for the real prize - economic justice.
Molly is an idol, and a fine relief in that. Her words, her actions, her life bespeak the values of univeralism, equality, community, and fierce individualism.
We all must step up to continue her work.
